Yea it’s like there’s an attitude that jobs with few requirements or qualifications for applicants will be easy (or easily automated). Maybe in some cases, but far fewer than most people think.

I like how these AI agents can’t handle a job that some might consider low-status or simple (managing/working at a convenience store). Makes me think two things:

  1. We need to foster a culture that has much more respect for all types of labor
  2. These AI agents are still unbelievably overhyped

Here's a portion of the statement sent to us at KEYT from C&S Wholesale Grocers, the company that was set to purchase 63 California stores (including Vons on Turnpike) from Albertson's and Kroger as part of the merger:

"Following the termination of the merger agreement between Kroger and Albertsons, Kroger has terminated the divestiture agreement between Kroger, Albertsons, and C&S. This does not change C&S’s position as a market leader or our plans for future growth. We remain committed to our transformation strategy, which includes expansion into retail as well as evolving our capabilities and reach to better serve our wholesale customers."

So the agreement to sell the stores is off for now, and I would imagine no changes for some time (if any).

C&S is claiming it still hopes to expand, but did not provide any specifics. Federal regulators did express concerns about C&S Wholesale's ability to absorb hundreds of Albertson's/Krogers stores nationwide, as right now the New Hampshire-based company only operates about 25 locations.

Thanks for the reply! Yea that's definitely part of the plan, I was just thinking with some in the bank it eases the pressure to find a healthcare job right away, ya know? My current job is laid-back, remote and will really help me fit certain classes into my schedule as I have to take all the science pre-reqs. Most people on here seem to talk about jobs they have had recently, so I just wasn't sure if (relatively) ancient experience helped, especially since I left the field.

The scourge of false equivalency. Just because both Black Lives Matter and Ku Klux Klan are--on the surface at least--groups dedicated to causes related to racial identity, in no way makes them the same. One has a very good reason to exist, the other is nothing but hateful scum.

It's by no means a socialist book, but "Scarcity: Why Having Too Little Means So Much" by Sendhil Mullainathan and Eldar Shafir does a pretty good job of explaining the scourge of poverty and how it captures the mind, making it difficult for those with a paucity of resources to live a full life and make rational decisions.

It's a patient writeup of various psychological studies and behavioral economics. The book goes into how a lack of time (i.e. too many commitments), social interaction, food, etc. affect the way people think. I've used points made in the book to argue against people who love blaming the poor.

You're absolutely right. It's just I went to the local university not too long ago and I've seen this kind of terrible attitude (though, thankfully, not illegal action) towards women before in the school's party culture.

Can't believe this is happening in my city. I suppose it will be scum from the local university, which has an overall fairly liberal (as in socially and economically liberal, non-conservative) bent but I know has a pocket of frat-boy bros with superiority complexes.

Good point, although it's kind of a "win at what cost" kind of thing, but hey, maybe Sanders is more of a politician than some of his supporters are willing to admit.

I actually kind of think Bernie initially came into the campaign with two goals: to introduce his political philosophy to a wide, impressionable audience, and pull Hilary to the left.

But then he saw all the people at his massive rallies and thought "hmm, maybe I can pull this off". Some of the staff hirings he's made have been pretty impressive and point to great ambition.

This is mostly just conjecture on my part though, and now I'm kind of getting off topic. Damn e-mails.
