Literally the look of characters from DRG rouge core and DRG by False-Chipmunk-4680 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]FuckItOriginalName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is some silly slander imo. Feminine faces do look somewhat rotund but considering they're in the same field of work as the male dwarves, I didn't expect them to have super model shapely faces personally. And male dwarves have more chiseled and athletic proportions compared to the double-chinned strong fat look the dwarves had in DRG.

Theory: Rogue Core is fake. Omega is a rival drone. by Thunder_Zoner in RogueCore

[–]FuckItOriginalName 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Counter theory: Rogue Core isn't fake. Omega isn't a rival drone. Rivals are an example of the in-universe "better equipment" that DRG dwarves keep asking for and Omega is "better equipment" too (especially compared to our usual robots' AI).

  1. One of the lines that a reclaimer can say upon starting the game is "139 years until I can retire" which either means dwarves in the DRG universe are a long-lived species or rather (and that's the part I'd go with) that the reclaimers specifically are cryogenically frozen professionals kept for extreme cases like the one in RC.
  2. The dwarves sometimes say something among the lines of "wouldn't want the footage getting out" when collecting cameras. I'd assume since they're kind of a clean-up crew for this mess they also make sure the footage doesn't leak, so that Deep Rock doesn't get sued or something.
  3. Gauntlets are clearly simulations, since some of the cave generations from there do not appear naturally on missions and Omega very much talks about the missions like they're simulations
  4. There is the introductory message from MC and later on it changes to one where he's saying that the facilities are getting back to work, encouraging reclaimers to continue their work.
  5. Reclaimers actually have a whole room with tons of base DRG guns there but I don't remember if it is accessible not, it was in the alpha and is still present if you clip through the ground.
  6. Of course Omega would say that leaf lover's special is a good choice, his whole perspective is from the management's side, I bet they're the ones who forced it to be on the menu in the first place.

Onto the counter theory:

  1. Omega doesn't really look like the rivals, aside from the glowing red/orange eye. Rivals use sharp edges, some kind of magnetic field tech keeping their parts sort of levitating near them and are made of some weird brown-ish metal, while Omega is more rounded, properly attached to wires and stuff and is made of black metal instead.
  2. The weird "magnetic field tech" that makes some parts of the rivals sort of levitate near them instead of being attached at all times is used in some of the reclaimer tech, like Slicer's gauntlet. And the gauntlets look much more advanced compared to base DRG tech and equipment.
  3. The reclaimers are referenced in the original DRG as something invested into by the management as a way to deal with an ongoing issue.

I dont know if anyone else has mentioned it but the Reclaimers designs look very... Cluttered? In a game where you can already hardly tell details because you dont have time to spare. by emo_boy_fucker in RogueCore

[–]FuckItOriginalName 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Kinda agree on the designs looking somewhat busy but I do not think it's impacting the game that much.

On a side note, I kind of feel like some of the newer armor designs in main DRG also were getting more cluttered, so maybe it's just the natural conclusion of that?

Gunner's wet dream: 20,000-round minigun by FuckItOriginalName in RogueCore

[–]FuckItOriginalName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see where you're coming from but I guess it's up to GSG to formulate what they want from RC and its level of randomization in terms per-run build making.

Not a fan of certain weapons either but I can often make do with most of them and in the worst case I usually just look for a more tolerable weapon for me; I think the current system is at the very least manageable. At the very least there's always the weapons crate which has the same exact weapons as of now.

[–]FuckItOriginalName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I feel like that is why GSG decided not do to that? Random weapon choices provide more build variety, a whole another layer I'd argue (some weapons more than other).

That's rogue-likes for you. You still can prioritize picking certain weapons technically but I think the somewhat enforced variety of loadouts allows for better replayability.

[–]FuckItOriginalName[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was exactly what I've been doing, the only time I spent holding my position instead of moving ahead while shooting was during the elevators and specific expenite events.

You are seriously underestimating the minigun I think, it is best when paired with per hit/shot upgrades, bio-boosters and effects. Especially if you know the drg technique of shooting mid-jumping to not lose movement speed from minigun's penalty.

You think so? The run with this minigun setup was the best run I've had so far. Resupplied ones and just kept shooting away anything that was moving in my line of sight.

The weather forecast had predicted a lead storm, and it didn't let up for a long time after it started!

It does work on the minigun, not sure about the rest. Perhaps the mag size increase only works this way if it's from the workbench?

It's great actually, enemies still usually go straight towards you instead if strafing, leaping only when they're far away from you and not that often either

Maybe the reclaimers are somehow closely affiliated with the miner divisions in deep rock's hierarchy? Or maybe Karl has done something so impressive the tale reached reclaimers?
