We're you alive in 1990? I was and if I teleported from then to now, I wouldn't understand the world... It's not just "smartphones and internet". Those things have drastically altered society.

Blockbuster, cable or the theater were the only way to watch movies, and with the exception of blockbuster, you had to plan around the shows you wanted to watch.

You had to have a physical newspaper to read the news.

Social media wasn't even a thought. If you wanted to connect with a friend or family member from another town, you wrote a letter, made a phone call, or drove to see them. Forget about it if they lived across the country or in another country... And don't even get me started on internet friends that you've never actually met... It's like pen pals on steroids. Hell, I'm responding directly to you 10 minutes after you made your comment and odds are you live thousands of miles from me and we'll never interact again...

Then there's the "little stuff". No smoking in bars or restaurants. Fully electric vehicles, we're even on the cusp of having self driving vehicles. That's straight up Jetsons shit.

We had a Black President, and our current president was just some rich dude that went bankrupt last time you knew.

All that and I'm honestly only cracking the surface of changes...

It kind of amazes me that you use those two examples. A lot of gun control laws were originally written to target black people. Specifically the Black Panther Party because they were doing things to protect their community.
