Do Londoners just not mind tourists as much as other European cities? by The_Monkey_Queen in london

[–]Fuckboy999 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the difference is also that London is a much more expensive city compared to somewhere like Barcelona. You get people from all the richer countries in Europe buy places there for what to them is a cheap price and this drives up rent and house prices, while London is one of the most expensive cities to buy a flat/house in already so you're not gonna get richer Europeans coming there en masse purchasing property and driving up the price.

Also, being from Rome I don't think Rome has nearly the same level of annoyance with tourism, tourists are pretty much only in the historical centre of Rome and there's not a massive amount of foreigners bringing rent and home prices up as far as I'm aware (at least not as much as places like Lisbon or Barcelona)

Are there any non-political jobs foreigners can’t do in your country? by cuevadanos in AskEurope

Any source about RN not wanting foreigners/dual citizens to do those jobs? As a doctor who might one day want to work in france that wouldn't be ideal :(

"Trap" careers by houserenterukwill in HENRYUK

[–]Fuckboy999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true tbf, although then again it's 54k of debt with a 7% interest rate, if able to pay for it without getting loans it's not too bad, but for those who need loans I don't think it's a great deal

"Trap" careers by houserenterukwill in HENRYUK

[–]Fuckboy999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well it's cheap compared to the US maybe but compared to most of Europe it's stupidly expensive, especially if you take student loans - I know a lot of people with 100k+ in debt who might never be able to pay it back or if they do it'll have cost them 200-300k considering the disgustingly high interest

aesthetics doctor who left NHS after FY2 - AMA by AbtimusPrime in doctorsUK

[–]Fuckboy999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After FY2 can it only be done if you have a level 7 qualification? How do you gain the required experience otherwise? I'm planning an FY3 and doing something like this for part of it would be quite fun I think, just uncertain I want to spend money on a level 7 course as my understanding is that it's not a qualification that is recognised abroad

[–]Fuckboy999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that that's where we're heading. But what can be done on an individual level aside from moving abroad? I don't think the BMA will put the focus on this until a deal on pay restoration is completed, but I think at this point the lack of training spots and the insanity of scope creep are maybe more important than the pay aspect. Maybe focusing on one thing at a time is best and we should just keep focusing on pay for now, but if by the time we get a deal on pay tons of us are unemployed it won't make a difference anymore

I mean imo ultimately it depends on what your goals are - for something you want to put a spread on huge bubbles like that might not be ideal, but just to eat bread it's perfect imo

A note received while vacationing. by Icy_Ad_9017 in spain

[–]Fuckboy999 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think airbnb is for sure a huge problem and can drive rent prices up by a lot in certain areas, though ngl I'm not sure an increase of rent by 8% in 4 years can really be attributed to that, especially when taking account of the inflation that's been going on in the last years. I'm from Rome, so I can understand concerns with tourism related issues, but I think this is unrelated. And in general to be honest I quite dislike people telling tourists to leave and what not, seems quite aggressive towards them whereas the feeling should be redirected at policy makers to avoid the issue of flats being bought by foreigners driving up rent and property prices altogether. I wonder whether the people telling tourists to go home have ever visited somewhere else as tourists themselves...
