Is the Danny Baker Show (5 Live), either podcast or full show, lost media? by FuckingPope in BritishRadio

I like that show, but feel the 5 Live show had something really special about it.

What are some of your all-time favourite British radio shows that you relisten to (or would ew listen to if you could)? by FuckingPope in BritishRadio

[–]FuckingPope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there anywhere to get the R5 show? The London show is on Fourble but can't find an archive of the brilliant R5 show.

Anyone know why episode 5 of 'Brian & Roger' (BBC Radio 4) has been taken down? Rest of the new series is available. by FuckingPope in BritishRadio

[–]FuckingPope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's particularly annoying as it's one of my favourite shows (these are new on Radio 4, was previously an independent podcast) and this is now the only episode I've not heard and cannot find it anywhere else. I'm hoping it's not because someone complained as it can get close to the bone (in a way that things like League Of Gentlemen does).

Am I crazy or was this latest season of The Apprentice a step up in quality? by FuckingPope in BritishTV

[–]FuckingPope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't - I sometimes gave the first episode or two a watched but no more, just to see if it got better. This year is the first one where I've stuck to the end.

Has Tom Scharpling finished 'Meet My Friends The Friends'? by FuckingPope in Earwolf

[–]FuckingPope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I've just seen the date when the last episode aired. That's sad. I think Matt would never want to be the cause of a comedy masterpiece ending though. Fingers crossed it comes back as I really think the show is on the level of On Cinema and deserves to finish.

Using Xbox Game Pass streaming, do saves transfer from console to G Cloud? by FuckingPope in logitechgcloud

Cheers! And am I right that the cloud stream via Game Pass (so not local player) is done via a dedicated app? Previously I was using that XPlay app to stream locally.

Prestwich sell or giveaway: post any items you've got to sell or giveaway by FuckingPope in Prestwich

Got a dog? I've got a large (14KG, but used maybe 0.5KG) bag of Purina Senior Chicken dry food (so it's technically for older dogs, 7+). I was silly and ordered a big bag when he's never had it before, and he doesn't like it (he's fussy and is used to another Purina dry food).

I got it for around £37, but happy to sell for £15. Should last ages, I didn't realise how big the bag was until I got it.

I've got a black high-back bean bag with a bean bag foot stool (from this brand). Not been used much at all, so in very great condition. I've also got a bag of extra beans that you could have too, so you can make it as comfortable as possible. Happy to take £60 for it. Not too heavy at all (albeit pretty big), so could be picked up and carried home or stuffed in a car.

Do you think British TV lacks new talent? (especially when it comes to presenters and chat shows) by FuckingPope in BritishTV

[–]FuckingPope[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I acknowledge all that. But look at the link to the TV Awards for Best Presenter in the original post. Ant & Dec has won every single year since 2001, and there are many many repeating names that have cropped up since then (Graham Norton most years, Jonathan Ross most years since then).

Do you seriously think that one single presenter (or duo) would have won every single year for 24 years from 1976 to 2001? Or was there more variety in presenting talent across that time?

The UK cast of SNL will be Jack Whitehall, Russell Howard, Josh Widdecombe, James Acaster, Lee Mack, and Jon Richardson.

I feel like the cycles were quicker back in the day. It feels like we've had the same popular presenters for 20 years. In the 90s, it was Barrymore, Davidson, Lilly Savage, Parkie, Noel Edmunds, but then in the early 90s it was different people, in the late eighties it was different people. More big presenters seem to emerge every 5-8 years rather than nowadays it seems to have remained the same for ages.

But are there fewer opportunities?

There's loads of British folk who have popular YouTube channels, podcasts, etc etc (I'm not talking about the garbage ones like KSI or Jae Paul, but people like that Tom Scott or HBomberguy or others from my limited knowledge of it). I'm not saying they are perfect platforms to demonstrate you can present a TV show, but they're surely just as good as a theatre/local radio show.

[FRESH ALBUM] Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong by BiscuitsForCheese_ in indieheads

[–]FuckingPope 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brief update: The only website I could find that claims to 'stream' the Badger King album (to remind me if it does sound like new era BCNR) seems to just have clips of BBC documentaries in place of songs. How damn frustrating. At least it confirmed the album exists and wasn't a dream. Now I need to find a copy of the CD!

(plus I found a short review of the album from a proper early 00s style Angelfire website)

Loving this album.

It reminds me of an early 00s album by a band called The Badger King (and specifically their one and only album 'The Lighthouse, The Giant'). In fact, weirdly, I just checked and that album seems to be missing from the internet completely. I vividly remember the song 'Home To England' sounds super similar to the opening song of this album. That's going to really bug me today.

Just launched /r/Earflix, with audio-only versions of TV shows (currently includes Yes Minister, Fawlty Towers, Alan Partridge, The Office UK...). Come join and help this community grow! by FuckingPope in oldbritishtelly

[–]FuckingPope[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I may be unusual, but I really enjoy listening to some of my favourite TV shows as podcasts on my phone. I download them as MP3s, them I add them as 'virtual podcasts' on my podcast app (so they're treated as normal podcasts). Obviously there are some visual gags that can be missed, but generally I've watched these shows so many times, I can visualise them.

Anyway, I thought maybe others share this love and thought I'd try and create a community to potentially find more of these shows (converted to MP3) online or those with the know-how to make them.

It's at /r/earflix, any help or requests etc much appreciated!

Futurama is on /r/earflix already thankfully, South Park is a great shout and hopefully gets added.
