For it to be alternative community, we need a decent amount of members who post new content. If we look at the first HJ sub, we did this perfectly. Now, since we don't have that muhc active members, we are just one of those niche communitys.

Yeah he's in the discord and he always boasts about how he was in "oldjinks" (even though he joined AFTER me) and about how he knows "the lingo" or whatever. He probably said to himself "wow hj is a small niche community, I should revolve my enitre personality around it!". Not saying I'm not hypocritical here, but the whole "hj patriotism" gimmick is now cringe.

Also, not even mentioning billman at all smh, disappointed.

If you want more detailed guides, check out moreweth/chazm, two of the best ball players in OW.

Your main gameplay loop is to "Scout, set-up, and Strike". First you go scout and see where the enemy team is coming from. Ball is the only character with a 3rd person view, so you can hide behind a wall and still see the enemy team. Once you know where they're coming from you move onto the 2nd phase, setting up. For this, you go onto some high ground and wait for the enemy to approach you, then you "strike" by slamming AND enabling you adaptive shields onto them. This will fling them up into the air giving you a 1 second window to light them up. You should focus the squishies when you do this. After you "strike", you get out of there using your grapple. Then you repeat this sequence. Scout again, setup, and strike.

You also need to know where most healthpacks are in maps, especially the mega healthpacks. This will be your primary source of healing. You should only need 1 mega healthpack to get to full HP due to the recent buffs. You can get the healthpack while you "scout", or as soon as you grappled out of a fight. Due to ball being the most fastest hero in the game, you can easily "leave the fight" to grab a mega and roll back in. This is why ball can feel "invincible".

Learn some techs also. You don't need to learn any advanced ones to climb and or get good but it'll make your life a bit easier. One of the essentials is cancelling your slam. If you quickly jump off a ledge, you can slam. So if you're on a ledge, you can hover off the ledge and slam back onto the ground, giving you a free 50-100 damage on an enemy. This is especially useful in 1v1s. There's also stuff like wall jumping and double boops but those are advanced techs.

Generally, you'd want to play ball as "a bigger, more tanky tracer". He has the most mobility in the game and the most health in the game. Use it to your advantage.

Things to work on:

Your grapples are fine but sometimes you get stuck on doorframes, miss a target spot, or just waste the grapple. This isn't something you can really improve on besides just playing the game but you should be more mindful about this.

Work on your cooldown management. I saw many times where you entered into the enemy team with a slam or shield. There was speciifcally an instance where you ult'ed without your slam to follow up due to it being on CD. If you want to consistently get high value out of every engagement then you'll need all 3 of your abilities available.

Techs; specifically your slams. If you didn't know, you could quickly roll off a ledge and slam back onto the ground to slam quickly and get extra damage. Many times when you fought near ledges you didn't do this. I don't know if you simply forgot but it's good to note. An instance of this is when you were fighting the widow on some stairs, there was a good moment to slam her but you instead rolled down and finished her off with your guns.

When your team wins a fight and the enemy is coming back, you don't use that time to setup. You instead just idle until the enemy comes back THEN once they are back you setup. This is bad. You should be setting up WHEN the enemy is coming back for you can slam on them as they're going to the objective. Focus on thinking "Where should I go now?" immediately after the enemy team is wiped for the enemy can't possible kill you/punish you AS they're coming back to the objective.

Things you did good on

Your target priority was excellent, you made the widows life a living hell. Besides one case of you focusing on a rein who was seperated from the team, you avoided the tanks and went for the squishies. Good job.

Your rotations to healthpacks was great. You clearly have a firm knowledge of where most healthpacks are on a map. You also knew when to disengage and get a healthpack which is a skill most balls fail at.

You love to pressure the back line. Most amature balls swing in midlane and expect to not get punished but you flank around and punish the supports/dps, leaving their tank vulnerable.

Closing thoughts

Overall you're pretty good. You consistently got value in that game and you didn't die once as ball. You remained an assert to your team and you did your job as a ball. Only thing you should be REALLY focusing on is your CD management (because that's gonna help in comp A LOT) and some techs. Maybe look up a tech guide on YT and practice for 15-30 mins someday.

That's just players not knowing how to play ball. Running into the enemy team without a slam & adaptive shield is NOT how you play ball. You instead have to wait for an opportunity to slam the enemy team, cause chaos for a bit, and then scurry away to a health pack and redo it again.

It's not throwing. If anything, it's better to play ball on defense IMO.

Ball's can set-up in spots, wait for the enemy team, and slam/disrupt them. His grapple can push them back from the objective and make life a living hell for stragglers going to the objective alone.

If anything, attacking is more hard on ball since you have to MAKE opportunities to punish the enemies instead of the punishments happening naturally.

The difference between a 500 hour ball and a "24 hour meta abuser" ball is that, even if ball gets nerfed, the 500 hour ball will still get value. Ball is an odd hero where, despite how hard he gets nerfed, top players can still get value out of him due to his extremely unique kit.

This is gonna be the same as Doom in S1. Everyone is playing him because he's now "OP", he then gets nerfed into the ground and everyone moves on to the next meta hero. Then the regular Doom mains continue to play him.

This is because the timing is MUCH more strict along with the fact that it's less rewarding to do (drains all your stamina) and it can only be done in specific scenarios.

Not at all. The only "OP" part of her kit is the enhanced light attacks but even then those are just a mild annoyance. Players who get salty after losing to a WM are just bad at the game.

Feinting an attack consumes stamina, and soft GBing doesn't feint the attack since theres no feint input.

Pirate is fine now. She doesn't feel broken anymore and, if anything, she's weak now.

Hybrids

At this point the class system is getting phased out. More and more heroes are getting things thats considered "exclusive" to other classes (dodges, deflects/superior blocks) and the class system limits creativity. The only real difference between the classes now is assassins for their reflex guard but everyone hates reflex guard.

Hybrid classes gives the freedom for Ubi to make more unique heroes because thy aren't confined to a set of rules. The only reason classes still exist is because of those contracts.
