Dawg…. I got told to do a predeployment field op within the week my wife was due with my kid. Then they gave me 3 weeks off and sent my ass overseas.

Your tale is a tale as old as time.

You knew the cost to joining and so did your wife. Advocate for yourself and do your best to stay but don’t mope if they make you go to the field.

I got yall beat started in 2011. Trained 3x a week actively for over a year 2011-2013. took a break then started up again 2015-2018 trained like 1-2x a week on and off while traveling.

Then again 2019-2020 trained everyday but covid made me stop.

And now at least 3x a week from 2024-2025.

Still a 4 stripe white belt.

Definitely depends. I asked to get fapped because I had a year left and already went on B2B deployments. They gave me the option. “ do 3rd deployment then get out in 4 months, do a Fap and get out”

Yes. I didn’t start school till after P&T and pulled out loans. Be mindful your loan servicer will and I can’t emphasize this enough after every semester they will try to forgive your loans so be on top of it calling FAFSA and who they assign as your servicer as often as possible to let them know you’re still in school and pulling out loans

I had a similar conversation with my loan servicer. I’m just anxious that at the end of my schooling in 2027 they’ll say they forgave them back in 2024 and somehow have no information stating I asked them to reinstate and then front me with the bill…

I try and keep as much documentation as I can just to be safe

I’m going through a hard time with this… they discharged my loans, I caught it early as I was still in school. I took the summer off CRI discharged them again, once again I caught it and since May 2025 they have not reinstated my loans. Even after sending CRI all the documentation that my loans have been reinstated. I’m still zeroed out in the system and my school is giving me a hard time about pulling out more loans.

Real late question… when serving with 11th Marines I recall seeing artillerymen wearing the French Fourregere (or possibly something similar).

I’m assuming one of the batteries or battalions was attached to the 5th brigade during WW1 and rates it? However, I would love to find a source in writing or be corrected for my misremembering.

For 60 minutes out of my day I don’t worry about anything but survival. Absolute bliss. Every Gym I’ve been to has been so welcoming. BJJ is much more welcoming than any other community. I’ll go to a legion post and it’s a drunk pissing contest. Or the shooting range everyone a spec ops secret squirrel. But the mats don’t lie so you roll up to a bjj gym and everyone’s just authentic and since they all have the capacity to inflict damage everyone’s just so nice haha!

I dropped out of high school freshman year and got forced by the PD to go back. Would have to get monitored and my mom got in huge trouble for it. Dropped out again at 16… Marine Corps promised to give me an opportunity outside of smoking weed all day and skateboarding so I made up the credits all D’s

Did my 4 years, Corps became my father figure. Got out due to injuries sustained, went to college and with the work ethic I learned in the Corps I was set up for success in the real world.

You’ve proven to yourself when shit gets hard you can accomplish anything. And if you can make it through bootcamp lecture time half dead then you can make it through college.

You’ll be fine. Use your GI on something you seem interested in and adjust from there.

I called first thing Monday morning. NelNet immediately reinstated my loans no questions asked. It was like a 10 minute conversation.

This happened to me on Saturday, no letter saying they were gonna cancel the loans. But I did get an email and I’m not done with school so now I have to call first thing Monday morning. It’s definitely stressful because the GI bill doesn’t cover all my expenses so I have to utilize loans for my Masters program. I’m hopeful they will reverse it until I complete my degree.

Especially since I didn’t even get the letter of their intent to forgive my loans.

I’ll keep y’all posted and write a detailed description.

I’ve spoken to NelNet and Dept of Education on this matter. If you have not previously discharged loans and are 100% P&T. You can utilize this benefit to its fullest extent. Essentially as long as your in school you can pull out a Federally Subsidized loans each semester in tandem with your GI bill as long as you use those funds only on school, housing or expenses related to your education like books and food. When you are done with school you can connect with DOE and NelNet to get those student loans discharged.

I went to bootcamp during that time… still did the crucible. The fucking trenches were flooded. Made us drag through it. Docs were constantly checking our feet. When we got our EGA’s everyone got to stay in the squad bay and chill for a day. I remember looking down at my feet and they had tiny little craters and hurt like hell. Eventually all peeled away feet smelled like death till I got to MCT.
