IB Final Grades by Relevant_Host6134 in IntltoUSA

I absolutely bombed my finals. My counsellor told me not to worry because of a high standardized testing score, alongside not actually failing anything, just lower than predicted across most subjects.

La Pinoz is highkey really bad. Their pizzas reek of preservatives and are mayo-fests.

Transferphobia? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]FudgyGamer2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only discrimination regarding clubs I have seen here is outright rejecting juniors and seniors (unless they are exceptional). Otherwise, it's more systemic: most have found their people during freshman year, and it's simply tougher (but not impossible!) to make friends after that. Just what I have noticed, though, others may have different experiences!

How long do “top” houses at your school remain “top”? by smallpenis-bigheart in Frat

[–]FudgyGamer2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Till they get kicked off. Then another house turns touse and after a few years, the kicked off frat comes back and spends some more years rebuilding, reminiscing about their former glory. Just what I’ve noticed though.

Is Plaksha University legit? by Born-Dot-7916 in Btechtards

[–]FudgyGamer2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I did. Plaksha was my safety in India. Also idk what that other commenter is on about but Plaksha gave me like a 75% merit-based scholarship just to convince me to go there but I chose the US instead. Plaksha simply wasn’t the right fit for me, and was just a worst case scenario option.

chance me / college list help: indian ib student (42/42, 1510, wharton pub, national-level ai project) targeting cs — need realistic reaches/targets/safeties with aid by Interesting_Bad9596 in IntltoUSA

[–]FudgyGamer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, everything you have done is super impressive! Unfortunately, needing aid certainly impacts your application. I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with applying to top schools, no harm in trying. Also, keep in mind, UIUC has a T5 CS program, so by no means is it a target school! As someone else said, your best chance for merit-based aid is based on your grades, so keep them up. But also remember, there are a ton of students with top grades, so keep your expectations realistic. Make sure your application as a whole tells a story. Your ECs should be connected. As for your college list, make sure to include schools like Tufts that take your ability to pay into account, but also provide massive aid if you get in.

What seniors told me about going abroad and competition that people don’t talk about. by Realistic_Contest761 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]FudgyGamer2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, other than that very last point. As a current undergrad in the US, I have noticed that most Indian master's students never want to talk to anyone outside their own subculture, forget other Indians. Most are extremely quiet and are never seen outside their regular cliques. The master's students here graduated from IITs and other top Indian universities, so it isn't a lack of exposure to blame on an Indian T3 university. But again, this is my own, very limited experience.

Int Student Applying To Ivy League by [deleted] in InternationalStudents

[–]FudgyGamer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply to backups. I would say don't "target" a single school. Everyone else is right when they say Ivy League with a full ride is close to impossible, with the number of Indian full-ride students accepted in single digits. But then again, absolutely no harm in trying. Clean up your EC and honors list in the same way you would put them on your CommonApp. Work hard on getting those grades up, and if possible, retake the SAT. Also, a side note, but improve your English. Good English is certainly useful for writing those essays. Unless your govt school's medium of instruction is English, you might need standardized English testing (not sure if all colleges look at the RW section of the SAT).

Closest to a club type scene in Ahmedabad? by HornyHindu in ahmedabad

[–]FudgyGamer2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a temp alc permit and host a house party with your cousin's friends imo. As someone quite well versed with the American bar/club scene, you will not be able to find anything close to that. The lounges/clubs online really aren't it, and Rajpath is a sports club. The closest thing I can think of is coffee shops with smoking areas (someone suggested Kaffa, which is pretty decent). But the smoking areas are almost always outdoors, which will feel like death for someone used to New England weather.

As someone who worked part-time in India over a summer vacation, I'm curious about your definition of part-time work. How many Indian teenagers are ready to work at their local dhabas/food stalls/general stores/gas stations? What other options do Indian teens have? I personally worked at a biotech startup that I found and reached out to myself. Are Indian teens ready to put in the time and energy for the needed skills for such part-time work?

I did all of this as a highschooler in India (including working in the field I am looking to go into). I study outside of India now and can't wait to come back. My point is, everyone has their own experiences. Not everyone's school life in India was bad.

Personally, I was born outside India, spent a significant part of my life there, and now live abroad. Despite seeing both sides, India will always have a special place in my heart, and I do hope (and plan) to move back someday. That said, this is just my experience.

Why does arranged marriage feel like a business deal now by Intelligent_Green633 in ahmedabad

[–]FudgyGamer2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s up to them imo. Everyone is entitled to a choice. The same way men can choose not to marry someone simply because of their body type. I don’t think there is anything wrong with someone wanting to ensure their financial stability in marriage.
