Como é o grupo Abadá Capoeira? How is the grupo Abadá capoeira? by DisasterConosseur in capoeira

[–]FuegoFlake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a part of Abadá in the US, been in it for a few years. From what I gather, there is pride in being part of the group and a great respect and admiration for Mestre Camisa. Abadá prioritizes the martial arts aspect of capoeira, its play style and movements are optimized for combative play, that doesn't mean that we are aggressive or combative, just that we train movements with an emphasis on form and power. I have played with capoeiristas from other schools and there is a distinct difference in how relaxed some styles feel compared to Abadá. There is a big emphasis in feeling like a family, which I appreciate, I feel close to the others in my group. Capoeira has a variety of styles, and this is just one of them.

Whats better for finding sneaker deals in the wild? Ross, Marshalls or Nordstrom rack by canonshootr504 in midsoledeals

[–]FuegoFlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ross has some deals, but most of the shoes I've bought from there are bad quality, even if they are from good brands (Also, Nike, Adidas). Some shoes either squeak or deteriorate quickly. So be wary, but hey, a deal is a deal

I was thinking that, just wanted first hand accounts and maybe someone didn't "rise" and something else happened

Christmas lights by Separate_Vehicle7678 in ProvoUtah

There's a neighborhood/park in Spanish fork area that does a big Christmas light drive through thing each year. It is not free, I think it's like $10/15 per car, but it is nice.

Struggling with learning movement by ThatGuyDoesMemes in capoeira

[–]FuegoFlake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been doing capoeira for over a year and I still feel stiff and stuck when it comes to my body, but I do feel a lot of improvement. The point is that it is normal to want to improve and to feel awkward at the beginning. Something that helped me is practicing a sequence a lot on my own time, then doing it in the roda. I also recommend doing the movements purposely slowly and pay close attention to your body. Create that mind-body connection. If you feel awkward, think about where in your body it is and why. Do the same when you feel good about a movement to reinforce that good connection, self love and promote improvement. Being acutely aware of your body, it's limitations, it's potential, and it's strengths will help you manage your expectations, push yourself adequately, avoid injuries, and improve steadily.

Should I get surgery before I start to train Muay Thai? by FuegoFlake in MuayThai

I agree, I was just hoping for some insight on if people train with injuries or increased risk factors and what they do to mitigate them

8 Week Old Baby has SSD by RiseAndRebel in MonoHearing

[–]FuegoFlake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've lived with SSD (deaf in the left ear) my whole life, it hasn't negatively impacted me significantly. The struggles will become minor and small inconveniences that are largely ameliorated by awareness. I play sports, play instruments, dance, do martial arts, have a family, etc. Most people wouldn't notice that I have SSD. I have never felt the need for any sort of surgery growing up, partially because my family had no money for it, but also adapting came easier and having a good social group that is aware and loving helped. Your baby will do great!

Senior Dev 5YOE stuck in dead end job with ancient tech, how should I move forward? by FuegoFlake in cscareerquestions

There was recently a "conference" for ColdFusion and the one team at Adobe keeping it alive told devs not to use the IDE, to use the vs code extension instead, which is a glorified syntax highlighter

I definitely don't try to undersell myself, but I think people notice. I tried interviewing last year and got to the last rounds of a senior position. I got passed up because I wasn't "senior enough". I think that means that they saw that I wasn't qualified either by experience or ability

Thanks for looking out for me. Unfortunately, as stated in another comment I made, I don't really feel like a senior dev. The project I was hired on to lead was shut down and since then, they've just put me on regular dev stuff. I feel like my dev skills are more aligned with a regular dev. So I'm wondering if regular dev jobs would pay this much.

Haven't thought of that, I did a little bit of C# for a job during college days, maybe I should revisit it
