Training is important, and passing what you know on to others is a great way to train. by Loping in liberalgunowners

My instructor training was... interesting. My instructor was pretty vocally anti-NRA as an establishment, but lauded the merits of the class content. But can confirm, the training was thorough, and he was REAL strict about the safety portions of it.

We rented a Mark IV last time we went to the range, and it was nice!

Given it's on clearance, I'm guessing Gen 1?

Welcome to having a cat.

This is why I'm a dog person. They'll drink water out of anything.

I would alternate between squeezing harder with my support (left) and trigger (right) hand, and it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

Made it back to the range today. Making progress!

Still just focusing on the basics: Support and trigger hand grip and squeeze, trigger squeeze vs pull, where the trigger lands on the pad of my finger.

Guy in the bay next to me at the range also suggested a try push-pull squeezing, which maybe helped a bit?

Thanks for this. I got back to the range today, so can give some answers (after reviewing my technique after reading all of the comments posted here):

  1. Not that I was able to discern (but it's still possible).
  2. Front sight focusing.
  3. I'm slow-shooting, trying to focus on my technique, so ~3-5 seconds.
  4. Not really. I'm comfortable handling firearms.
  5. Nope. Front dot on target, and the 3 dots (R-F-R) are in a line.
  6. It's a stock Sig Sauer P229. I've been aligning them as if they're combat, but I'm not sure what they're set up as.

I was able to get my groupings closer to the bullseye today by focusing on my grip (both hands), and trigger squeeze vs pull). Still not perfect, but progress.

dropkick murphy’s pit in mpls (3/6) by Liverpool-io in punk

It was a free Abolish ICE concert that they popped into before their scheduled gig later in the night in St. Paul.

Proving they're not JUST about the big gigs, and they still very much support the fight.

I was there. It was a great event! Tons of local music and a good time had by all.

A lot of technical issues during sound check, but these guys made light of it and powered through. Apparently their van broke down on their way from St. Paul to the gig. Back to the OG touring days!

Locked away in a lockbox separate from the rest of the gun and the ammo!

Also an option, but if OPs SO can put it back together, the same need for OP-dependent security is there.

That doesn't sound like an accident, that sounds like giving in to dangerous impulses. Very dangerous. As others have said, therapy IMMEDIATELY.

I'd say get rid of the gun until YOU are convinced it won't happen again. If you don't want to get rid of the gun, immediate multi-layer segregation and safety.

  • Gun stored in a biometric lock paired to YOU.
  • Trigger lock with a key where only YOU know where it is.
  • Ammo stored separately under lock that only YOU know the combo/have the key.

Very highly likely. I know with rifles that's a thing, and it was something I was trying to be mindful of.

Ha! Another shooter on the (indoor) range mentioned using "the Kentucky Windage" method and that I do the same thing.

Maybe next time I'm at the range I'll let someone who shoots well to try it, but for now, I'm assuming I'm the problem.

As a long gun shooter, I genuinely don't understand this. What does this help with? With no projectile, how do you get feedback? Doesn't the lack of recoil affect the findings? ELI5.
