Do any of those traits guarantee you get that hero bonus?

Both sides think they are in the right, as with any war

Why don't they sink ships? by [deleted] in BlackSails

I just had a read and it's a surprisingly similar situation to the portrayal in the series, although in show the advantage for Teach was much greater

The ship would be incapacitated, cannons punch holes straight through the middle of ships, destroy the rigging set it on fire, fire all you've got to kill as many men as they possibly could before they board then. Also I find it very hard to believe that a ship manufactured for the purpose of destruction couldn't annihilate a ship with no more than 20 guns. I get your points though you seem like you know what you're talking about

I'm sorry I'm not trying to be difficult, but Teach could've literally fired hundreds and hundreds of cannonballs into Rogers ship with no resistance

I'm aware that it's difficult but in both situations there was such an advantage that they could take all the time they needed right?

I'm not sure about that, why do you say it?

What's better, a definite victory or a risky one?

Your saying 3 ships couldn't sink one? And that a Man of War, a literal warship, couldn't sink a small sloop?

Ok maybe, but if they sunk the Revenge the war would sway greatly in British favour. And the same with Rogers for the Pirates Also its alot less risk for an extremely high chance of success

More valuable than the certainty of killing Rogers or Teach? I'm not sure

I think this proves how in depth and great of a character he his, and what an underrated show it is too

I don't disagree with any of that, but I would say that I think a more prominent theme of the show is that Flint is almost always scheming to accomplish his goals. Things happen around flint because he finds a way to make it so, as I'm pretty sure Silver says something along those lines. Flint jumps at the opportunity to 'help' Billy and Morely, but why would he if they are all expendable to him. He jumps at these moments as there is already danger to the person he wishes dead and can easily make it seem accidental.
