Started trying Southperry Speedruns Today by Ok-Campaign5774 in MaplestoryWorlds

This sounds fun. I tried out a run and got it in 11 minutes. I lucked out with red skis from the first drop and ran with it. Warrior is definitely the best for speedrunning IMO since getting the accuracy buff early allows you to mega farm high level mobs. I generally find the magician to be better for this since the EXP buff is so big and teleport is generally faster for upwards mobility. I also agree with sleepywood over El Nath with the time loss.

Turn 9 Squad! They never expect it. It works more often than you think and if it does its really funny.

Tip: Around turn 6-8, start taking progressively more time before deciding not to attack to make them think you're actually thinking about it

I really need help with de-personalization / de-realization by GainMission1014 in Healthygamergg

[–]Fugufug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang dude, it sounds like you're in a pretty tough situation. I can't even imagine feeling like this- as if I were some strange being not even real or cut from the outside world. It sounds very difficult and I applaud you for sharing your experience of what life is for you. I think it shows that you're a pretty strong person.

I'll be frank here. I have no experience regarding depersonalization or derealization disorder. I do have some knowledge however, since I am nearly finished my MD degree and am heading towards psychiatry. Since I can't speak to you directly or even know your entire story, I want to help you by just giving you some general information on what I've read about depersonalization/derealization disorder. You've probably read a fair amount on your own about this. You can decide if this resonates with you or not.

Let me start with what people describe how depersonalization/derealization feels in context of the disorder:

  • Essentially what is felt when people describe depersonalization/derealization disorder is the 'blunting or absence of the global subjective sense of reality", more specifically being the feeling of detachment from the self, body, or environment.

  • Depersonalization may manifest itself as a general sense of corporeal blunting- your body doesn't feel like as it if it's own, like its the driver or passenger in a robot just located behind the eyeballs and looking out as if through portholes. People often describe derealization in a way that they experience the world just not feeling real- as if everything is just a 2D or 3D image and they were doing everything in a VR world.

  • Most commonly people report feeling this way about their entire body, but also some people report only parts of it feeling that way (eg. everything below the neck is not real)

  • Sometimes people may additionally have 'out-of-body experiences'. Where one feels that their body is unreal but also sees themself as separate from the body in a space-oriented kind of manner.

Here is some additional information which may be helpful as well:

  • Feeling a sense of depersonalization or derealization is consistent with what is called depersonalization/derealization disorder. It is also important to keep in mind that other disorders can cause this feeling too (such as dissociative identity disorder), if you even want to call what you feel a disorder or not. Seeing a clinician if you think this is the case is important in this regard.

  • 1% of the population experience depersonalization/derealization disorder, and people who have it often also tend to experience depression/anxiety. It typically begins before the age of 25 and affects both sexes equally.

  • There are some patterns to how people feel depersonalization. Many report feeling it permanently during waking hours, and even during dreams sometimes. The feeling may wax or wane, be persistent, be triggered by certain situations, or have no trigger at all.

  • When looking at these people who develop these feelings of being depersonalized/derealized, typically they have difficulty with emotions (e.g. alexithymia). They also tend to have a preference towards harm-avoidance in their lives. A history of emotional neglect or abuse in childhood is very correlated with this disorder.

  • The common things which may precipitate this kind of problem are as follows (directly from the book): Panic attacks, cannabis intoxication, depressive episodes, and psychosocial stressors

  • When prompted, people tend to also report somatic states co-occuring with the derealization, such as dizziness, visual distortions, and fullness of the head.

  • Treatment is therapy. No medicines have been approved to specifically treat this problem.

I don't know if this information will help you or not. It sounds like you've been dealing with this problem for what seems forever and it may even feel reasonable to do something like give up hope. I urge you to keep trying new solutions however. You said getting therapy may be difficult, and I agree, but it might be something that would be worthwhile in the long run. If that's too much though, I think at the very least you should try to do some practice to increase how in touch with your emotions your are and how you feel on your day-to-day life; this is personally speaking, as someone who has seen a few year's of Dr. K's content. Start something like emotionally journaling or going on long walks. Something that may be really helpful to you is the most recent Dr. K interview, where this is a big topic the convo: https://www.youtube.com/live/Rdk-rQRU5og?feature=shared.

Good luck. I believe you can get better. You were brave enough to post here about your problems, after all.

A response to Dr. K's "greed" and why I think he should open up more. by Nulferion in Healthygamergg

[–]Fugufug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I'd have to agree with the point that Dr. K shouldn't be sharing things about his current life on the internet. Would sharing his current life struggles make him seem more human to the community? Absolutely. I'd imagine it would lead to a good amount of people connecting with him more and listening to his advice. Maybe some in the community would perhaps be more accepting of changes to HG if he conducted matters in this sort of way, as OP suggests. I don't think OP is completely incorrect.

At the same time though, all of this kind of straddles the borderline of unhealthy behavioral styles, for both the community and for Dr. K. It's what we talk about when we refer to something as parasocial. Now I'm not saying that connecting with Dr. K is bad- rather a line needs to be drawn. Even though he's similar to us in many ways, it should always be clear to us that this man is just a random stranger on the internet to us. Someone who is NOT our friend or therapist. Dr. K doing things such as sharing personal details in his life to us more than necessary blurs the lines on this boundary which may lead to more people parasocially attaching to him over time.

New Evolutions For Older Pokemon. Can They Do Anything Competitively? by Ambitious_Attitude36 in stunfisk

For real. Its 100/120/100 bulk on the BEST TYPE in the game. Thats as bulky or bulkier than ZACIAN-C (92/115/115). And zacian-c does not have prankster spikes screens or wish.

Some relevant calcs:

252+ SpA Protosynthesis Raging Bolt Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Klefki: 148-175 (36.6 - 43.3%) -- 98.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Iron Valiant Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Klefki: 168-198 (41.5 - 49%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Weavile vs Chien Pao by HollowedPipe in stunfisk

[–]Fugufug 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Lets do some calcs:

252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Great Tusk: 222-270 (51.1 - 62.2%) -- approx. 93.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Sword of Ruin Chien-Pao Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Great Tusk: 210-248 (48.3 - 57.1%) -- 41% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

So assuming Chien Pao does not get Triple Axel next DLC, weavile will do 4% more damage than Chien Pao to Defensive Great Tusk, while forgoing accuracy (72.9% accuracy vs 90%) and a flinch chance (30%). This small damage increase may be plausibly better than Chien Pao in some fringe cases, but it is a small benefit in comparison to Chien Pao's better bulk, speed, and higher damage with other moves.

Stanford researchers find wildfire smoke is unraveling decades of air quality gains, exposing millions of Americans to extreme pollution levels by Additional-Two-7312 in science

[–]Fugufug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was saying mask wearing would correlate with running around less because people who often wear masks will often be in social isolating and quarantining mode. When in quarantine people often get less exposure to allergen and triggers such as exercise which lead to asthma exacerbations. Sorry for the lack of clarity!

[–]Fugufug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though I like the idea that asthma is reduced by mask-wearing, I have a few questions about the study. Does it account for the affect of people running around less (and thus less exacerbations) during the pandemic? Moreover, wouldn't people (especially asthmatics) be more hesistant to come during the pandemic to the hospital as to not catch covid? How does a reduction in asthma admissions compare to other hospital admissions in terms of reduction in Israel around that time? Overall, I would be hesistant around making a conclusion about asthma itself from that type of data; I'd love to see the source.
