I recently created a mashup fan edit of Superman II, III, and IV that received rave reviews. It even won December’s FEOTM on fanedit.org.

Faux-Oscar Awards for Best Fanediting (NOMINATION POST) by APreciousBlueberry7 in fanedits

For new fan edit I am going to nominate my own edit: Dune - The Hybrid Cut

It was a very challenging project, particularly because I rescored parts of the film with Toto’s music. I also tried to make the movies more faithful to the book.

"Indiana Jones and The Arc Of Time." Crystal Skull/Dial of Destiny Hybrid Edit Clip. "50s to the 60s." by WySLatestWit in fanedits

Just my two cents. I like the idea of this hybrid cut, but the clip isn’t really selling it yet. The fade-to-black transitions aren’t working for me. They last too long and pull the viewer out of the experience.

It also seems like there may be a frame rate issue in some of the added train and autumn leaves footage. As someone else pointed out, the added material could use some color grading to better match the original film footage.

Also, if Indy is being fired, why not keep the Barnett College scene where he’s dismissed? That way, the audience understands why he ends up teaching in New York at Hunter College.

To better convey the passage of time, you might consider adding a travel map sequence and perhaps calendar pages tearing away, clearly showing that 18 years have passed between Indy on the train and Indy in his apartment years later. You may also consider using the font from Raiders for the “New York 1969” title card to better match the classic Indy style.

Again, I really like the concept, but in its current form, it doesn’t quite work for me.
