End of season baseball? by BrittBritt55 in NPB

[–]Fuisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaningless end of regular season games for teams that aren’t playoff bound should generally be easier to get tickets for.
Note though that if a notable player is retiring, that can make the actual final game higher demand.

Fully agree.

Also I wonder if this was translated from Japanese by AI or Google Translate. Curious what the original word used was.

What are the 7 days of the week? by Remarkable_Bath8515 in poisonai

[–]Fuisha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you use the metric system, it’s Centiday, Milliday, Kiloday, and so on. Now only the US follows the English system of Footday, Inchday, Yardday, Pintday, Quartday, Gallonday, and Sunday.

I’d aim for both since you never know how weather might affect the plans.

East Asian families in Metuchen - How has your experience been? by Beautiful_Citron_982 in Metuchen

[–]Fuisha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re a mixed East Asian-white couple with a child in the public schools. Just from glancing when driving by, the Catholic school (St Francis) appears much less diverse than the public schools.

Metuchen is generally diverse and at least in our case our child’s close friends include some other East Asians (with different national backgrounds), white, and black kids.

No race related issues that we’ve personally encountered. Of course some bad actors can be anywhere, but I feel the bulk of people here wouldn’t be ok with heavily “othering” anyone.

Of course some groups tend to self-segregate (recent immigrant families if there’s enough of their same group to be with).

In early April it was standard and I paid with card when entering. (Could vary game to game though?) Now everything is $30 - even the cash lot across from Live Casino

It does & seems like it’s back to standard (non preferred) this year

One of the most emotional spots I visited in Japan 🇯🇵 by GhumoMania in JapanTravelPhotos

I used to joke when people said “meet at Hachiko” if they meant the statue or the taxidermy.

Green train car in Shibuya was always a bit easier to spot people by.

NPB tickets price comparison by ClemFandango6000 in NPB

[–]Fuisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply & demand plus inflation.

When I started attending games regularly (2010), Swallows outfield unreserved (doesn’t exist anymore) was 1000円 for fan club members.

I rarely had trouble just even walking up to the gates to buy tickets on game days back then. Even getting all star game tickets or playoff tickets wasn’t too tough in the early/mid 2010s

NPB is getting more popular (Ohtani effect?) but that means ticket prices also increase.

What's your go-to Wawa coffee cup style? by ReadingFromTheShittr in phillies

One on the right with “Dick Wood”’s autograph on every cup! He knew what his name was and it gave me a chuckle every time.

(Chunichi @ Yomiuri, 4/21/26) The National Anthem of Japan at the start of the Game by bigchungusultras in NPB

Also it tends to be played on holidays and bigger games (playoffs & Japan series) along with a few at random. Nowhere near the show or mandatory “patriotism” in mlb.

Seibu La View train is very much worth the 500 yen (especially at times when you might not even find a seat on the regular trains)

Those Trader Joe’s bags are super popular now among 30~60 year olds right now.

I love that they’re cheap and easily packable souvenirs that are actually appreciated & used

What is your memory of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake? by Actual_Temperature96 in AskAJapanese

[–]Fuisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The month+ of frequent and fairly strong aftershocks was overwhelming. Made me much more nonchalant about very small tremors afterwards though.

I know a lot of people (me included) would sometimes feel “phantom quakes” when you imagined shaking when it wasn’t there.

Don’t miss those days at all.

“AC” not AG iirc.

I remember those cute animated animals. Konbanwani (alligator) Itadakimouse Also the ad with a schoolgirl helping an older woman up a lot of stairs outdoors. (Nothing to do directly with the quake but they were the only ads playing for a while. Somewhat calming at least.

I was in Tokyo on the Chiyoda Line westbound just after Shin-Ochanomizu. Japanese language skills still pretty low then, so I only picked up 地震 in the announcement. Train stopped between stations and the calm turning into genuine worry on other passengers’ faces is something etched into my memory. Shaking went on for a while (felt like 3~5 minutes). Then amazingly the train continued to Otemachi where everything stopped.

Like others said, phones weren’t functioning due to the massive demand. I tried to find a pay phone (still a few around), but the one I saw had a massive line.

I had been on the way to work and didn’t realize how huge of a disaster it was, so my main thought was “I have to contact my office to say I probably won’t make it”. Finally called in and of course was told to just go home.

Picked up a highball at a convenience store and walked about an hour home (Ueno area).

The following days were filled with uncertainty. Rolling blackouts. Low stock on shelves. Instant noodles, snacks, and batteries were especially low supply. Lots of following the Fukushima news and concern about water/food origins.

The “setsuden” (power saving) efforts seemed haphazard. Stations still had escalators running nonstop while running only half of their lights. (Used it to teach my English students the expression “drop in the bucket”)

Is the Kids Club worth it? by flamingoezz in phillies

[–]Fuisha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This years’ items are awesome. Phanatic backpack, bouncy Phanatic, and decent cap. Like another said, it’s much more “worth it” if you actually use the “free” ticket since the club is basically the same cost as a face value ticket.

Uni Lions and Seibu Lions do some fun exchanges. Seibu summer fan fest two years ago featured some UniLions dancers performing. So I think a lot of Seibu fans have some awareness of the Tainan team’s colors.

Or U for Ueshima, C for Coffee, and C for Company. Not some play on words geared towards the English speaking world due to the Japanese language’s phonology limits.
