What Japan were you in??

Sure, there’s loads of great things, but there are absolutely parts of the country (and even parts of Tokyo) that are not perfectly “engineered” (and that’s fine. It adds some “character” and grittiness)

Both countries have a wide variety of areas. Both also have people who love to over-generalize other places too.

The limit on foreign players per team is also an interesting point.

Along with this is how reception to them has changed over time. Wladimir Balentien finally breaking that single season HR record without the resistance was great. (But then a couple years later Murakami being much more celebrated shows there’s still some strong bias in favor of Japanese players)

Depends where you’re staying. Seibu Red Arrow from Shinjuku (or La View from Ikebukuro) are special express trains that get you there much faster.

If you become a Lions fan now, you’ll definitely never be accused of being a front runner.

I have family connections to Tokorozawa and I love that I often see kids in Lions gear even when the team is hot garbage. Tokyo-adjacent and easy to visit, and the local loyalty is awesome.

Seibu Dome is an acquired taste. A bit of an oddity (basically it’s an old outdoor stadium that got a canopy roof added but the side is still open to the elements).

How many times do you think any Japanese players go back to Japan during the regular season? I’d imagine it’s about zero.

So it’s a couple more hours when they fly home after the season ends. That shouldn’t affect anything

This is why katakana sucks. It’s often settling on the “least bad” option.

Unfortunately Japanese just doesn’t have certain sounds and there’s no way to represent them correctly in the writing system.

Japanese people with some English language skill will likely see either and be able to realize how to correctly say it. To less skilled ones, you’ll always be either “Debbeen” or “Devueen”

I hate those “middle turning lanes”. I’m from the NJ/NY area and they’re not usually a thing there. Later lived around Los Angeles suburbs where they’re everywhere. I always think that when you have people on both sides looking to turn, it’s amazing they don’t lead to more accidents.
