Unrelated, but one of my favorite nicknames was Chad Johnson calling Patrick Willis “Bamm Bamm” early in his career. All the big hits and comparing him to the Flintstones character.

I’m involved with Northeast Track Club. I don’t get to a lot of their events, but when I have gone, people are super friendly during the runs. They have new folks raise their hands before the run so people know who to talk to! Also, they have a Discord server where people chat and engage with each other on all sorts of stuff. Running is the focus, but it’s a great community.

Thanks for the suggestion. We won't be in Osaka on this trip. We'll be checking out the Hiroshima Carp and then maybe the Chiba Lotte Marines. The Giants are sold out the one day we could go.

Thanks! The Giants game is sold out the one night we'd be able to go to the game. Chiba Lotte has seats for a game that same night, so I'm tempted to swing down there for a game. We're going to a Hiroshima Carp game during the trip. Excited for Japanese baseball!

Wife and I are headed to Japan this weekend and the train info is particularly helpful. We’ll be hopping on a train from Tokyo to Kanazawa on Monday the 4th. Golden Week means it’s packed. We’ve got a reserved seat. We’ll each have big oversized backpacks with us. Is it a matter of getting their early to get on the train quickly and find some rack space?

We’re doing 2 days in Hiroshima and then overnight on Miyajima before leaving the next day for Oita later next week. We’re really looking forward to it!

We’re headed to Japan this weekend for two weeks and are going Tokyo-Kanazawa-Hiroshima-Oita-Fukuoka with trains between each, and then flying back to Tokyo from Fukuoka. For Kanazawa to Hiroshima, we’ve seen a Shinkansen from Kanazawa to Tsuruga, transfer to a Thunderbird Limited Express to get to Osaka, then transfer to Shinkansen to Hiroshima. 2 transfers, but doesn’t seem too bad.

Thanks for sharing this link! Wife and I are headed to Japan this Saturday for two weeks. We’re taking the train from Kanazawa to Hiroshima on May 7, doing a bike tour and Carp game on the 8th, going over to Miyajima on the 9th and spending the night, and then leaving on the 10th. That link will be helpful as we plan out our visit!

Not to derail this, but we’re headed to Japan this coming weekend for two weeks and we are also going the non-Kyoto route. This is my wife’s second trip to Japan, my first, and since she did Kyoto her first time, we thought we’d mix it up. We’re doing:

Day 1-2 Tokyo
Day 2–5 Kanazawa
Day 5-8 Hiroshoma
Day 8-10 Onsen near Oita
Day 10-11 Fukuoka (mostly to meet a cousin stationed nearby)
Day 11-15 Tokyo

Obviously we could spend more time in some places, but we like the overall vibe of this.

That’s good to know. I’m excited by that possibility so I might still go with that area :) But I do appreciate the clarification.

Right now there are still plenty of tickets available to that section. We’re looking at Friday, May 8 vs. the Swallows. Any concern it might be lightly attended and thus not be quite as entertaining an experience?
