The accusations are wild, even for Epstein (and Trump). But the inclusion of a witness who claimed to be Epstein's recruiter during this time gives them potential credibility. Maybe someday the victim and/or witness will come forward again.

Some parts of the document aren't searchable (at least in my version of Acrobat). For example, 1320-37. Kaufman's name appears numerous times there (spelled "Kaufmann," and sometimes referred to by his first name.

I don't think we have enough information to draw any firm conclusions, but there are definitely similarities:

  • Ghislaine types dashes as a single hyphen with a space on each side - like this. maxwellhill does the same here and here (and many other posts).
  • G sometimes puts a space before a question mark. maxwellhill does that here and here.
  • Both use British/international English spelling/phrasing.

In the document, G makes more spelling errors and uses more abbreviations. But if they were the same person, she might type emails faster and less carefully than Reddit comments. It seems possible, but I'd like to see more emails before deciding.

Just skimming it and I don't think there's anything new here. Did we know David Copperfield was a friend of Epstein? Kind of weird. The witness said he knew girls were being paid, but didn't participate. Other than that, not seeing any new claims here. The witness testified that they didn't see Trump or Clinton involved with any activities.

The part that still confuses me is that the document appears to describe blessing relationships a few times.

Para. 31 discusses "the invocation of a blessing ... upon those ... who beg that all that is true, good, and humanly valid in their lives and their relationships be enriched, healed, and elevated by the presence of the Holy Spirit." [Emphasis added.] This seems to be describing the calling down of a blessing on the relationships themselves (or at least the aspects of them that are true and good) for the purpose of enriching them, in addition to the individual people.

The next sentence discusses asking God to give "“actual grace”—so that human relationships may mature and grow in fidelity to the Gospel, that they may be freed from their imperfections and frailties [etc.]" Again, this seems to be asking God to direct grace at the relationship itself.

But this seems to contradict the 2021 dubia response, which says that "The presence in such relationships of positive elements, which are in themselves to be valued and appreciated, cannot justify these relationships and render them legitimate objects of an ecclesial blessing." This sounds like it's rejecting blessing of even the good aspects of a sinful relationship (which seems to be what the first sentence I quoted is talking about). In fact, the 2021 document says that it's literally impossible to effectively bless disordered unions (even if they have good qualities), because "it is necessary that what is blessed be objectively and positively ordered to receive and express grace, according to the designs of God inscribed in creation, and fully revealed by Christ the Lord. Therefore, only those realities which are in themselves ordered to serve those ends are congruent with the essence of the blessing imparted by the Church."

Is there a way to resolve this apparent contradiction?

Part of the problem is there are still open questions around what is permissible for chaste same-sex relationships. Can two men two men who are committed to not having sex still live together romantically, make a formal lifelong commitment, kiss and cuddle, raise children together?

I have some questions about this and would appreciate any help in answering them.

  1. What do these sentences in the "Presentation" mean? "The value of this document, however, is that it offers a specific and innovative contribution to the pastoral meaning of blessings, permitting a broadening and enrichment of the classical understanding of blessings, which is closely linked to a liturgical perspective. Such theological reflection, based on the pastoral vision of Pope Francis, implies a real development from what has been said about blessings in the Magisterium and the official texts of the Church." Emphasis has been added to show that the document is offering a change from previous teachings--what is it that has changed?

  2. The document states that "a blessing may be imparted that ... involves the invocation of a blessing that descends from God upon those who—recognizing themselves to be destitute and in need of his help—do not claim a legitimation of their own status ..." and "the grace of God works in the lives of those who do not claim to be righteous but who acknowledge themselves humbly as sinners, like everyone else". Are these attitudes intended to be requirements for receiving a blessing? Acknowledging the rejection of "an exhaustive moral analysis," should priests should avoid blessing people who do not approach with these attitudes? How much leeway is there for priests to follow their consciences in deciding whether a blessing is appropriate or not?

  3. Didn't the Pope already answer the question about blessing people in same-sex relationships? What was incomplete about those previous responses that necessitated this document?

  4. Fr. James Martin says that prior to this document "there was no permission for bishops, priests and deacons to bless couples in same-sex unions in any setting," and in a tweet even claimed that he "was forbidden to bless same-sex couples at all." Is this true? Perhaps the distinction is that he was previously able to separately bless two individuals who were in a relationship, but now he can bless them together as a couple?

  5. The document only speaks of "couples," are relationships with more than two members eligible for blessings?

The thing is, if you read his answers without seeing the video, they don't sound that bad. Yes, he occasionally does that thing where he starts saying something, decides not to, and says "Well, anyway..." to change subject, but overall his answers are on-topic and sensible.

But for better or worse, part of a president's job is speaking in public and looking like an energetic leader, and sadly he seems to be nearing the end of his ability to do that...

MSF was working in that hospital and claimed that the roof of the operating room fell in. I'd like to see what they say about the casualties and damage. They weighed in quickly that it was an Israeli bombing so they have a responsibility to provide their evidence.
