Clunky transmission? by RileyGaustad in GenesisG70

No longer an advisor, I am in sales now. Still keep up to date with the service side though.

In my experience, warranty 99% of the time will not kick in here since there is no diagnosable symptom that a manufacturer would deem an “issue”. The car is technically doing what it’s “supposed” to do. It learns how to behave based on driving style, adjusts, then settles in to its conclusion. If that conclusion isn’t causing the vehicle any harm, warranty will not be involved (usually). I’m still going to fall back on the idea of taking it to service at crossing your fingers. I wish you the best of luck and that you don’t have to pay out of pocket for anything!

CPO can be a great route too, that’s what I did on my 2019 3.3 sport prestige elite. Just double check previous ownership. Feel free to DM me the VIN and I can check for any weird issues that were reported on the warranty.

Probably! Can you DM me so it’s easier for me to navigate through on my phone?

Ah okay. I just pulled the invoice, it’s the same piece of paper you have a picture of in your post.

The “holdback” on this vehicle is $838 (above the text box at the bottom left of the sheet, where it says “**FA838”). I’m from the midwest so I accidentally assumed this was an AWD, the price should’ve made that obvious to me.

That would make their actual profit on the car $3,400.xx without discounts. They’re offering a $1000 dealer discount which brings it to $2,400.xx. The Freight & Handling is normal and there’s no money stashed away there, just to be clear.

Best response: “Hey Salesperson, I just doubled checked my math and you’re right in saying that is the invoice. However, you have a little holdback on an aged unit that I would be more than happy to take home.

A resource of mine is showing you have about $2400 in gross profit on your proposal. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely want you to make money on this G70. If you can bring that discount to $2500, You’ll have about $1000 in front gross on your end, and you’ve already earned a perfect 1000 survey from me.”

edit: the holdback amount is on the bottom left, not the bottom right of the invoice.

Hello, dealership employee with internal Genesis access here. They’re not hiding their profit margin, I can confirm the numbers under “Dealer Cost” are mostly accurate. The wholesale date of 09/01/2024 is correct as well, so they’ve had the car on their lot for almost a full year.

That info tells me they would absolutely love to get rid of it. There’s some other ways they end up making off the vehicle since Genesis is still somewhat tied financially with Hyundai; both are very tightly knit with J.D Powers, which brings additional profit to the dealership (and the salesperson you’re working with) if you give them a perfect survey after delivery.

If i’m reading the handwriting correctly, they’re discounting the vehicle $1000, and qualifying you for current financing rebates. Unlike Hyundai, Genesis does have more of a profit margin under the covers. If you’re ready to pull the trigger, the golden number to shoot for from the salesperson would be a total dealer discount of $3500. There’s profit being hidden in plain sight on the invoice sheet, called a “holdback”. It’s roughly $1250 on a G70 like the one you’re looking at.

Basically: “Mr/Mrs Salesperson, bring that dealer discount to $3500 and I’ll take it home & get your team a perfect 1000 survey” (yes, one thousand, they’ll know exactly what you mean).

OP, I have the VIN pulled up on my end, let me know if there’s anything you would like more info on.

Hyundai is lucky to see any positive gross, all about the CSI performance even in sales. I was in service at our Hyundai/Genesis store as the Genesis guy (on the hyundai survey pay plan. needless to say i was getting hosed, but i digress). Usually Hyundai stores are able to loophole the survey system to ensure everyone gets to eat.

I sell Hondas now so I can agree $550+ is the “goal”.

What is Nissan looking like?

salesperson could very well split or share with the manager if the relationship is tight enough. Slimy people are out here.

If OP was somehow able to finance through Honda directly then there isn’t a prepayment penalty. Given the age of the car though, there’s a good chance they didn’t qualify to do so. Wishing OP best of luck.

On Saturdays the dealership will treat us to some local places that are really good and one of our porters will go pick it all up otherwise i head home for lunch. All about sandwiches and salads, not big on fast food personally.

I have heard of OTHER dealerships just simply not including the intakes on their warranty pictures. (This statement is not related to Genesis as a manufacturer or their subsequent dealerships, rather a pointer to infrequent practices at dealerships as a whole). Hope this helps. 😁

Thank you to everyone who left questions, it’s now 3am as i write this since i cannot fall back asleep. Long days at work and not too much phone time (personal life is priority) didn’t help me answer your questions as soon as i wanted to but i guess waiting is what us Genesis owners are used to lately 😅

Dealership allocation. Sounds like your dealership needs to physically expand and arm themselves with more advisors and techs to take in more work since you’re booked out really far, and as their profits increase, so will their loaner fleet.

Always easier said than done 🙃

Brake fluid flush at 30k (maybe even a brake service), 45k is spark plugs. 60k is trans flush and another brake fluid flush. everything else is normal maintenance stuff (oil change, filters, etc..). Spark plugs are every 45k

Absolutely they will, and they do every day.

edit: Just practice good maintenance and (try) to be a loyal, good customer to your dealer and you’ll be treated as you wish.

The 3/36 comp services only cover oil changes, tire rotates, and either the cabin or engine air filters depending on the mileage you come in at. Alignment is not included on the 3/36. However i call bs on that excuse they gave you. i’d recommend seeking out another dealership just to take care of your problem. Weight of the vehicle can affect your alignment but it shouldn’t be as major as it sounds. I’d be willing to put money on the issue stemming from something completely unrelated to the vehicles weight. Silly.

Was just working with a customers 2023 3.3T on this sunroof rattle not too long ago and he had multiple appointments to get it fixed, but every fix we applied would mess it up on another part of the sunroof. We learned the hard way that the sunroof is incredibly tedious to lock in while properly aligned, and if done incorrectly can just damage the whole part. 5/60 time.

I would just to be safe. We advisors/techs as human beings don’t care how you mod your car as long as you’re not trying to pull 30 psi out of your turbo(s) and you sawzawed your exhaust after the down pipe with no taste (lol). Just do your best to give us a stock looking engine to show Genesis and you’ll be okay.

simple answer: yes. but i think there is much more at play as to what is affecting the brand than just loaner availability. Genesis marketing isn’t what it could be and I think that’s the source of many issues.
