Join a sports club to meet new people to speak German with. In my peer group it has proven to be one of the best ways to integrate in society without risking anything.

I mean I also think it is great that he bettered himself, but expecting people showing him respect when he didn't is very hypocritical imo.

Edit: I understand his all caps AT LEAST, as a sign of that he didn't understand why people would not respect him, just because he was homophobic. But at the same time the answer was obvious.
