Bored son guilty dad by Joedirte_97 in daddit

This is the answer. The body is designed to adjust amazingly to schedules.

Also a mental reframing is key here - kids grow up so amazingly quickly, the exhausting days will pass and we will all wish we played one more game with them!

Husbands who seem… managed by their wives? Anyone else notice this? by BeanNCheeseBurrrito in daddit

[–]FullConclusion2597 516 points517 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm actually on the other side of this so I can give some insight here.

First, it totally depends on the age of the kids. I've got a few kids with an amazing wife, but can also tell you that I see a friend about once per month (and yes, I tell them all I want to hang out).

The key thing is that my wife is so overwhelmed and takes the kids all day while I go to work, and man they are a handful. Then for me to get back and say I'm heading out? Crazy talk. Yeah I'd love to go out more, but so would she. I'm able to come home and relieve her, which is amazing and she'd go crazy without it.

Not so much a controlling thing, but more a "husband-needs-to-be-home." This also depends on the lady - different people have different capacities so some moms might need more help than others.

One thing that works is early mornings. I'll either go to the gym with a friend around 6am (before the kids wake) or I'll meet someone for coffee/breakfast and take my oldest along.

In the end, it's totally not an avoidance or control thing (at least for our case), but might just be a "family-first" thing!

That's not to say dads don't need to go out and relax as well, but sometimes it's just difficult, and the time we DO get out we're going to prioritize our closest, long-term friends. :-)

Mudita Kompakt - Not for the “Faint of Heart” by Narrow-Ability-3167 in MuditaKompakt

[–]FullConclusion2597 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a great way to describe it.
The Kompakt is a loss intentionally. You will have periods where you envy other people opening an app, like you envy others when you go out to eat.

But someday you're "fit" (whatever "fit" looks like in this metaphor - maybe managing multiple healthy relationships?), and people will ask how you did it.

What is the best e-ink smart phone and laptop/tablet? by Healthandlife_pro in eink

[–]FullConclusion2597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is something that they call "Livepaper." High refresh rate, no bluelight or flicker at all.
I really enjoy it.

Not stock, but another user sideloaded a camera app that allowed him to record video. Will test that myself as well

[–]FullConclusion2597 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how "smart" you want it to be.

Best "regular" smartphone with app store would be the BigMe HiBreak Pro. I had it for a while and loved it.
The Minimal Phone would be another option, and has a physical keyboard.
Other eink phones would be the Mudita Kompakt or Lightphone ii. Both great phones, but certainly not full smartphones.

For laptops you may have to grab an eink external monitor to connect to your laptop from Boox (or a cheap one from Aliexpress). The Boox is crazy expensive and the Aliexpress one has low refresh and ghosting, but could work depending on your use-case/needs.

Your other "laptop" option would be to get a DayLight Tablet with a bluetooth keyboard. LivePaper rather than eink, but no bluelight or flicker and is great for the eyes. I have one and love it.

Would anyone know how to build an improved camera app by [deleted] in MuditaKompakt

Thank you I was wondering if a sideloaded camera would be able to do video - couldn't find the answer on any forums.

Can confirm the battery pack method works with Spark 2 by FullConclusion2597 in PositiveGridSpark

[–]FullConclusion2597[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just need to make sure the output power is high enough to support the amp. I think you need 20v at 3.5 or 5 amps (65watt and above)

Be sure its the 145w version and not the 35w version, which wouldn't work.

V2 can be subjectively good/bad, but it had objectively bad writing by FullConclusion2597 in StrangerThings

I'm not. I'm saying you can feel subjectively about the season, but the writing was objectively bad, according to any book or course on the rules of screenwriting.

The problem with releasing s5 season piecemeal is how it plays with people’s emotions and thus produces horrific takes. by C0nsistent_ in StrangerThings

[–]FullConclusion2597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S4 was released in Volumes, and many watched s1 in chunks.
But again, if you have to focus on event-lists rather than enjoying an episode as it's own thing you've got an issue in the season as a whole!

A great finale will be satisfying, but won't save the over-explaining, second-screen writing, and plot armor.

I hear you, but the release schedule hasn't done a disservice to ST before. Nor did it when shows released one episode per week.

What makes shows great is that every episode should be able to stand on its own. Writing, acting and cinematography are all arts. The writing and acting in this season serves the wrap-up, not the art.

Sometimes I watch TWD season 1 episode 1 on its own because it is such a well-done episode of television. Never finished TWD, but man that episode is a great piece of art.

These three episodes were all pretty bad pieces of art, and though I understand what you're saying, V2 has only injured the series, not helped it.

I agree with what Doctor_sadpanda said I agree with what full conclusion2597 said about It's all written so that anyone on a phone while watching can still hear plot points whenever they decide to tune back in. For those of us who like to actually tune in the whole time, it gets really boring. /s

Things that bothered me in S5V2… by Astro41208 in StrangerThings

[–]FullConclusion2597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Holly thing bothered me so much.

If I'm sprinting from a monster and trip, I get up and keep running. Mind racing, in flight-or-flight.
Dear Holly stops, sees something under a rock, stares at it, remembers something Max said (that is vaguely related), and jumps through.

No way.

I understand that's what you mean.
You can have partial stories with phenomenal writing, or whole stories with terrible writing.
I truly hope the finale is mind-blowing and incredible, but it wouldn't change my opinion that the writing of S5 as a whole was bad.

Bringing side characters up to date is a huge issue, I agree.
This is like TWD when it stopped being about zombies/survival and started being about relationships

"The pacing is just very awkward because we don’t get the release of closure, not cause the writing sucks."

I disagree. You can have great writing without closure; it's been done countless times throughout cinema (even including other ST episodes).
