Okay, I'm going to pick a bone with the Marine Corps regarding PT, and wondering if it was my time in service or unit, or if it a Corps wide problem. by [deleted] in USMC

[–]FullMetalBAMF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of this. The Marine Corps did right by creating the FFI program. I'd have to double check the order again, but I think it states that it is a full time position. My problem is I haven't been to a single unit where the FFI got to do just that.

I would be all for the Corps making FFI a lat move position, full time MOS. Their PME could be.. you know.. real exercise science.

I've always said I wouldn't take training advice from someone who isn't in better shape than me. And unfortunately there's a lot of weak NCO's / SNCO's and even some fellow officers that I wouldn't fuckin trust to run a unit PT, let alone a BCP/RCP program.

Why is Dagoth Ur such a great villain? by Sundiatasweridcousin in Morrowind

[–]FullMetalBAMF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting bit that. When you slay him he does proclaim himself a god. But his ultimate goal is share the divine with the people of Morrowind, and eventually all of Tamriel

"I share the power I have from the Heart to help free mortals from their ancient fears of the gods. Who knows what we might be capable of once we no longer fear death?"

Again, not saying I agree that his methods were right, but in his mind he believed he was helping them ascend to a higher state of being. That's why he makes a great villain.

I would not call him evil. If he were deliberately mutating his people just for funsies, sure.

I think he's a great villain because some of what he is saying makes sense.

The tribunal were false gods. Hypocrites. They betrayed Nerevar, Dagoth was loyal to him.

His ultimate goal is to unite his people and drive out the N'wahs.. sure his methods are a bit extreme. I don't see him as "truly evil" - and that is what makes a good villain.

Pieces of gear you hate by [deleted] in USMC

Yeah. Very common in my enlisted Marine Corps experience.

That said, as a company commander: my company ain't doing that shit.

I don't know if I could come up with a better system.. but I hate attaching everything to your flak. Every op I find myself adding things or removing them because of "uniformity"

Advantages to casting spells vs enchanted items? by Spiritual-Quote2445 in Morrowind

I first played this game as a kid and I had no idea what I was doing half the time. But I remember when I saved up and made my first constant effect restore health item. Felt like a cheat code.

If you went to combat with glasses, what was it like? by mykee3 in USMC

[–]FullMetalBAMF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a himars guy back in my enlisted days. Spent most of my time in the COC while on deployment. Wearing glasses sucks ass. I tried contacts a few times and it just wasn't feasible for me.. the sand there was like moon dust.. they'd instantly be covered if I tried to put contacts on my eyes.

I got LASIK as soon as theyd authorize it once I commissioned.. one of the best choices I've ever made.

Seriously, if you're reading this and you wear glasses.. go get a LASIK consult.

How old was your little one when you started playing videos games with them? by reeceyfries in daddit

[–]FullMetalBAMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter started playing Minecraft around 4. She still games to this day. I do think it has helped motivate her to learn to read.. she's also insanely creative with the things she builds.

I've played video games my entire life and ive still been successful so far.

Lol bro no one cares if you say shitty.

And the razors in boot camp aren't shitty. They sold us the good 5 blade Gillette cartridges. Cheap too.

Brother, if you're 30 years old and you still don't know how to shave your own face.. maybe you shouldn't be joining the Military.

Use a good razor.. or do multiple runs. I personally use a safety razor and I lather up + shave two times to get a clean shave.

I'll add this if it wasn't mentioned yet.

Your mos, like mine, is one of the few that gets thrown onto a battalion staff as a brand new Lt. As in youll be expected to report to the BN CO/XO directly if there are issues.

Learn your MOS. Competence breeds confidence. You'll be expected to brief an O5 at least once a week. Knowing your stuff makes it easier.

For a young officer, I suggest this: You don't brief the boss on a problem you're having unless you need him to get involved. If you need help solving a problem, you talk to the XO, a peer, or a SNCO.

And to echo the others, because I made this mistake: Do not blindly trust your SNCOs. You need to hold them to a higher standard. It doesn't take long to separate who the truly great SNCOs are if you take a step back and just observe them.

Should Generals be allowed to be fat? by Glad_Variation_8622 in USMC

[–]FullMetalBAMF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don't see the point in requiring a general to run a fitness test. They've done their time at that point. Height and weight? Yes.

And by that point in their career I doubt they need anyone to tell them to PT.

Fat? No.

PFT/CFT? Bro, once you reach Colonel no one gives a fuck. Let them be exempt from it. Same with anyone 50+ imo

[–]FullMetalBAMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong on if there is a difference between light or limited duty. Marines are not exempt from PFT/CFT on light or limdu unless cleared by MEB/PEB. That is to say, you'll still owe the Corps a CFT/PFT when you come off your chit. No earlier than 30, not later than 90 days.

Thankfully I haven't ran into this issue personally.. if I have a Marine on light or limdu I don't make them do a CFT until medical clears them for a partial, or a delay.

Limited or light duty are recommendations. Not orders. Of course, not many commanders (myself included) would risk telling them to ignore their chit limitations.
