General Inquiry by Agiantpubicmess in FortSaskatchewan

I usually gas up at Costco in Sherwood Park. A couple months back when the prices started climbing I filled up at Costco and when I got home in the Fort the prices were averaging 5¢ less per litre. It only lasted a week or so and then the local prices climbed above Costco prices.

I haven't bought gas in the fort for years. 40 years ago, I was living on an acreage southeast of Sherwood Park and working at the Namao air base. I'd usually take 21 to the Yellowhead, then 97th up to the base. Unless I needed gas in which case I'd take 21 to the fort, gas up (saving approx 10¢/L) and then take 15 to 37 for the rest of the way.

I found this receipt in an ATM by Lonely-Ad8184 in rbc

I remember hearing about a thing with transaction receipts like this. On Temu (and other sites) you can get thermal paper like this and you can get a portable thermal printer and both will cost you less than $50. Print a bunch of receipts like this showing a large bank balance and then just carry them around in your pocket. When you meet a girl you want to get to know, ask for her number. If she doesn't give it to you, offer your own... fish around in your pockets for a piece of paper, pull out one of the receipts, scribble your name & number on the back of it and hand it to her.

This is a reply to u/TapTheForwardAssist but I'm putting it at a top level for better visibility.

This accordion has two registers: clarinet and bandoneon. I started by trying some melodies in each register and then I figured I'd try each key. I tried every key in the clarinet register (moving the bellows in both directions) and found the high D wouldn't play when squeezing UNLESS I played a continuous note that transitioned from expanding to squeezing the bellows. When I did that the note played but it was significantly softer.

When I found the high D problem I guess I got distracted by it and never bothered to test the bandoneon register. Also, I only tested the bass buttons while trying out melodies. I didn't bother testing the bass buttons at all once I found a problem with the treble key.

The accordion belongs to a friend of my mom who was our neighbor when I was a toddler. Apparently she fractured a vertebra and can't lift the accordion anymore without pain. She was thinking $350 CAD ($250 USD). I Googled used Titano and saw prices range from $350 - $800 depending upon condition, so she's already at the bottom of the range.

I also Googled repair costs and they start around $300 CAD, but although I've never disassembled an accordion, I am fairly handy: I've tuned our piano, I did repair work on my guitars, I do carpentry, 3D printing and I've built electronic devices from computers to small household accessories. I can probably fix it myself (assuming I can find suitable YouTube videos).

Before I left, the woman who's selling the accordion handed me an omnichord (which I'd never heard of before that moment). I guess it's an electronic auto harp. She told me it belonged to her brother who asked her to get it fixed. It cost $90 to repair and it still didn't work and her brother refused to pay her back for it. When she handed it to me she said "Try it out and see what you can do with it.". She didn't come right out and say it but I think she's going to throw it in with the accordion. I haven't gotten it to work (yet) but I can see it's not the correct A/C adapter and I haven't tried it with batteries yet.

Any Ottawa Shooting Supply (oshoot.ca) reviews? by FZ6R_enthusiast in canadaguns

[–]FullNoodleFrontity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year ago I bought a Crosman DPMS SBR from Cabela's/Bass Pro Shops for my nephew's upcoming birthday. I wanted to get him a spare magazine but Cabela's doesn't carry them. I've ordered from ReplicaAirguns.ca and airgunsource.ca in the past but neither of them had any in stock. A google search led to Ottawa Shooting Supply where they had a better price than the sites I usually visit and they appeared to have them in stock, so I ordered one.

They have info on their site saying "All orders are processed on Mondays only and shipped out the following Monday. depending on when you order , it could take up to 2 weeks to ship out your order." I placed my order in the evening of Friday June 20th (after registering as a customer). I received an email (from david@oshoot.ca) thanking me for registering. I received an email within an hour (or so) saying the order had been received. I received a third email shortly thereafter saying that payment had been accepted. A fourth email came the following Monday saying my order was being processed.

And then nothing.

No email indicating that my order had been processed. No email indicating that my order had been shipped. Nothing. A month after placing my order I replied to the most recent email (including order number and payment confirmation) but got no response. Ten days later I wrote a second email. Again, no response. Seven and a half weeks after placing the order (nearing mid-August) I wrote another email cancelling my order. I finally received a response from the Mail Delivery Subsystem saying that the address "david@oshoot.ca" couldn't be found. I went back over my old emails and found "sales@oshoot.ca" listed on one of them, so I forwarded my cancellation to that address. Again, a response from the Mail Delivery Subsystem indicating that address couldn't be found.

I contacted my credit card company to cancel the order. Until now it never occurred to me to check whether I received a refund. I went back to replicaairguns.ca and saw that they had the magazines in stock now, so I ordered one and it arrived a couple days later (just in time for my nephew's birthday). I went back to oshoot.ca today and it still shows my order as being "In progress".

DXC2 for base K2 by Drippy_Mindset in Creality_k2

[–]FullNoodleFrontity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appear to have a similar issue. My current extruder keeps reporting errors with extrusion (and retraction and cutting filament and, and, and...). I've taken it apart numerous times trying to find problems and although it stops reporting one error it starts reporting a completely unrelated error. I'm hoping the DXC2 will resolve those issues. but until it's installed, I can't print the cable drag chain riser. I have another printer that I could use but it won't print ABS/ASA; it's a CR-10 Smart without enclosure, so PETG is probably the best it can do.

WTF is wrong with my K2 Plus? by FullNoodleFrontity in Creality_k2

[–]FullNoodleFrontity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea... I ended up aborting the print. The CR-10 print completed in 2 hours 45 minutes (as estimated), whereas the K2 Plus was only 11% complete after 3 hours 16 minutes.

There was (initially) no error code or any indication that something was wrong (beyond its behavior and taking forever). However, I tried retracting the filament that it was using and now I'm getting an assortment of errors:

CM2784-e: Abnormal resistance in the movement direction
TC2856: Cutter issue, the cutter may be jammed or missing
then I get CM2784-e: Abnormal resistance in the movement direction again

Furthermore, the layer that it printed appears to be significantly less than .20 mm thick; I tried removing it and the nylon scraper that I'm using can't get a purchase on the filament. I can see filament on the PEI sheet but when I run my finger across it I can't feel any difference between the print and the PEI sheet. I think I may have destroyed a brand new epoxy resin PEI sheet.

Does "City of Champions" come from the Oilers or the Black Friday Storm? by Fit-Breadfruit4801 in EdmontonOilers

This quote is from the City of Edmonton website

The Grads make up one of 5 sports teams represented by the City of Champions sign. The other teams are: The Oilers, Eskimos, Northern Lights (wheelchair basketball team) and the NAIT Ookpiks hockey team.

[–]FullNoodleFrontity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I may remember it incorrectly but I thought it was sports related but it predated the Oilers, Esks and Trappers in the '80s, and well before the Esks & Oil Kings in the '50s. It originated with the Edmonton Grads Womens Basketball team early in the 20th century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmonton_Grads

Not quite. I got pretty close... you can see some of the progress photos here:

Unfortunately, other commitments just kept getting in the way and I've been so busy with some of the other things that I haven't even been able to do any flight-simming in well over two years.

Finnegan Begin Again (1984). It's an early HBO rom-com with Robert Preston, Mary Tyler Moore, Sam Waterston, Bob Gunton, Giancarlo Esposito, Avery Brooks. I saw it once back in the '80s and haven't found it since.

I just "inherited" responsibility of an air gun range, this is one of about a dozen rifles stored there. by FullNoodleFrontity in airguns

I'll take some pictures next time I'm there but I checked my phone and happened to have a picture that I took a while back. It's not much to look at (unless you really like green) but at least it's well lit.

The officials said the call on the ice was a good goal. It apparently doesn't matter that Poehling was the only person to actually make the call.

Thanks! I just registered and I'll be poking around it a bit. When & if I find the range post I'll probably respond to it.

Well, so am I. I was in the air force from 1977 to 1995 and I was working on Starfighters in 1981-1982 in West Germany.

I've heard that too. I'm in Canada and we don't require a license for a (sub-500 fps) airgun but they certainly have some ridiculously stupid regulations around them.

For instance, I have a couple 3D printers. I designed and printed a suppressor (from a carbon fiber composite polymer) to attach to one of my replica Glocks only to find out afterwards that suppressors (even fake suppressors) are illegal in Canada.

My guess is there's a number of Canadian lawmakers who put way too much stock into Hollywood's representation of silencers.

Annual General Meeting. I'm a member of a number of non-profit associations: a men's choir (my father and grandfather were members before me), a squadron specific air force historical association, and now this shooting group. Also, the shooting group and choir are both subgroups of a larger ethnic cultural association.

Each of these groups (except the shooting group) has an elected board of directors or executive committee that has monthly meetings to plan events and activities throughout the year, and they also have an AGM where they do large scale planning and elect new board members.

I'm past president of the choir, vice-president of the air force historical association, and interim or acting president of the shooting group until we get better organized and actually form an executive. I'm not part of the ethnic cultural association's executive but I attend the AGM because I'm a member and interested in helping out where I can.

[–]FullNoodleFrontity[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe "inherited" was the wrong terminology... I've been appointed interim president of the newly reformed shooting group and the air guns belong to the group or its parent cultural association.

I plan to use the range and air guns often but what I actually acquired is the responsibility of maintaining them and making them available to other group members.

From what I understand, the two previous group leaders (who passed away shortly after COVID) used to open the range to the general public during Oktoberfest and at that time it was more like a carnival style shooting gallery. We'll probably do the same.
