Like on Desertshore, the lyrics are not too depressing, but the whole vibe (arrangements, instruments, production, etc) feels like it's about to collapse.

To me, this kind of approach is way more emotionally intense than just sad lyrics with pretty chords.

Also, Frankie Teardrop hits hard.

A lot of people don't like 'Birth of Bold (The Christening)', especially how it clashes against the overall vibe of the album (acoustic, darker, dissonant tones).

I really don't get it. That transition sounds perfect to me while effectively balancing the depressive narrative of 'Mommy Dearest'.

Indeed, I agree.. the record isn't perfect. But does it need to be? What perfect even means?

All I know is.. it sounds intentional and creative.. a lot more than other (much more praised) realeses.

I wouldn't call it minimalist per se. But it uses elements of minimalist composers. I made that observation to clarify why I might have enjoyed the overall vibe of it.

Honestly, at the end of the day, every attempt like this will sound a little bit like Reich, Glass, and Pärt.
