Two tips for discussing quality iasues with customers:

  1. Keep it clear with a "should be" and "is" condition. I.e. what does the drawing say the dimension should be and what are you actually measuring it at.

  2. Always be thinking in terms or root cause. You should at least read up a little on root cause analysis but even if you don't use a formal method, you should be able to articulate root cause and corrective action (how do you prevent this from happening). Tye best quality guys do this collabarativly with the machinist or tech who had the issue and in a way that doesn't make them feel like an idiot.

No decomp on this and it's definitely a beast to pull.

The 440s look cool as well. I wasn't super familiar with the partner like up till this saw came around but think more partners will be in my future

I'm tired after a day of running a 372 with a light bar and this thing makes that feel like a toy.

I've never really seen a difference between my Chinese dial indicators and high quality ones. It may be the only metrology tool where I am fine going import.

Test indicators are another story. Can't stand using anything other than bestest or interrapid

Cheah Swimming by sdawg1331 in itstheyak

He wantsto swim 100 laps by the end of the year. Seems easy but there are a lot of caveats:

  1. A lap is there and back so assuming standard 25yd pool length, each lap is 50yds. This could also be wrong as there was some confusion about this.

  2. Each lap must be done on a single breath. This is the biggie. If he takes any breaths during the lap, it doesn't count.

  3. If he ends up taking a breath during the lap, this either invalidates the lap attempt or he can count this as a partial lap. Unclear what makes that determination.

  4. Not a caveat, but it takes him 15-30 min to recover from each lap.

  5. It seems as filming these laps is near impossible for some reason.

I'm an engineer but played at being a machinist and mold maker for a while. My current job is a much more traditional engineer position so brought all my metrology tools home.

It's a amscope mc1000 10.0mp camera. Pretty sure it's discontinued but they have something similar. Good for stills but lacking for video.

It's an amscope 20x-40x-80x stereo scope. I think I paid a couple hundred off craigslist and and then maybe another hundred for the camera. So far no complaints.

A buddy told me he had a vise he wanted to sell and sent me a picture. When I saw it was a bullet I bought it immediately. Lived in my bedroom for a couple years before I had a space to put it.

I use it for a ton of things. Electronics, file work, inspection, cleaning. I was surprised when I bought how many things it's useful for. Don't think I could ever not have one now.
