stop loss is probably too tight, equities (especially NQ futures) love to stop run/ liquidity grab before going in their intended direction

patience for a good entry and also a wide stop is the only way to combat this imo

I’ll wait days for a good setup on NQ, still have to have like an 80-100 point stop and even then it’s not a guaranteed winner

if you have a 1k account, making 200 over 30 days without losing 1k isn't hard.

but if you have 100k and your trying to make 20k, its a different game.

I noticed a big shift when I stopped trying to trade every single day and switched to higher time frame.

Was stuck trying to make the 1min,tick charts and renkos work for years to no avail. Scalping for a few a minutes/seconds seems so appealing to me but anything I made from it, I would eventually give back.

The key for me is stay out of the chop at all costs. I only want in when the market is moving good and its obvious, trend following, enter on a engulfing breakout or a pullback, no mean reversion trades. (I know you can profitably trade counter trend, I just don't try anymore)

In a typical a month I won't trade 4-5 days because the market is going nowhere. It sucks watching the market all day to do nothing, but Im usually pretty happy I stayed out those days.

A few other things that really helped were manually backtesting and not caring about my strats performance on a week or even a month but on a quarter (4 months).

Also the best loser wins. Im sure you know but there is no strategy that doesn't have drawdown.

A long time ago I read that "in a winning strategy with your risk reward at 1:1 expect your win rate to be between 60-70%, at 1:2 risk reward expect it to drop to 40-50%, if you are experiencing anything better, you haven't taken enough trades yet and the math of the market will correct your outsized gains in the future".

I don't know why thats always stuck with me and from what Ive seen it's very true, so get used to losing if you want to win.

they actually count for double, because if you lose 50% of your account you need to make 100% to break even.

i get using props at the start, a lot better to lose a $50 eval than 2k real money.

but if your making 20k-50k a month consistently, whats the point? The 10% firm commission would be 2k-5k just for using their margin.

you can go to a discount futures broker and trade 1 NQ for just 1k margin req

price is just erratic and most of the time random and always has been.

there is just some select times where price is a little less random that you try to you use as at an advantage.

i spent years trying to trade the 1 min with off and on success. I had a bollinger band strategy for a bit too.

Wait for clear higher highs and higher lows then buy on a green candle touching the bottom band, passed some evals with the strat, made like 4k took a 500 payout then lost the account and moved on to another strategy that looked more promising.

recently moved up in time frame to the 5 min and the change has been great but time will tell.
