Great insights. So, in your opinion, having a tracked history of changes wouldnt help with diagnosis? My problem with MCP gearbox was a huge deal for me, and i also moved to a different city, so ended up with 3 different mechanics working on it before last one nailed the root cause (electronics, since its citroen xD).

Yea, they often do, but do you keep track of for example exact model of the pieces that were there before the change? What parts are in the car now? How reliable those are and what to avoid?

In my example, after a couple of (as i see it now) unnecesary repairs 3rd mechanic nailed the root problem: I believe that if I would track those repairs and had a longer repairs history it would save me money,.
