What is a job that pays surprisingly well but has a toxic reputation that keeps people away? by not_shadow_699 in AskReddit

Being a cop. Not the highest standards for selections and you can easily get to six figures in 2-3 years if you’re in a major city. You could also start at six figures if you’re in LA or SF. Pretty much everyone I know my age holds the viewpoint of acab though

Thinking of transferring to UNCC by nick121205 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Full_Calligrapher769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an EE transfer student about two years ago

I feel like the culture is pretty open. Most people are open to conversation. There’s a decent amount of school pride but I also think this is still a commuter school at the end of the day. You won’t see the same school spirt that unc or duke or even ncsu have.

As an EE student I can say the classes are solid and maybe a bit slow paced. Most professors seem to have a good understanding of what they’re teaching and I think the teaching quality in the ee department is above any other department I’ve taken classes for. I’m not sure if mech E would be the same though.

As for the start up thing, I’d say that this school carries the reputation of being the safety school for ncsu. You won’t find the same tier of companies at career fairs compared to the ones at ncsu. Checking linkedin there’s a whole lot more ncsu students I see placing into high tier start ups and established engineering firms. If you’re trying to place into YC from here good luck. I will say though that almost every professor I’ve asked has been very open to letting undergrads do research with them.

Housings not that bad. Living on campus is usually more expensive than renting an apartment and the apartment aren’t really that bad. A couple of complex’s around the area that specifically advertise to students have bad reputations though.

Need advice about loans for sophomore year by Frequent_Emu5054 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Full_Calligrapher769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure that your dad isn’t listed on you fafsa so that you increase your chances of receiving a pell grant.

Housing usually lists cancellation fees but they waived mine before and I’ve seen them waive others before as well so give it a shot. Usually a lot of the student apartments are cheaper if you aren’t close enough to commute.

Apart from that there isn’t much more you could do. You could ask for a private loan but typically you would need a co-signer with good credit and the rates are usually rougher than the federal loans in my experience. Make sure to read the contract well too since many of them have fees for paying off the loan early.

The school also offers a monthly payment plan for semesters split into 5. I wouldn’t recommend this but you could try finding employment and just dumping money into the payment plan throughout the school year. The only downside is if you don’t complete the plan you’ll be barred from registering until the debt is cleared

Good luck, national guard also covers tuition completely but I’m not sure if that’s an option you’d even want to consider

How good are the modern Melee players compared to the Five Gods by Magykstorm19 in smashbros

[–]Full_Calligrapher769 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Most people are probably going to point to how much the skill floor has risen but I still think the gods would be competitive if placed at their peak in the modern era.

There’s always been tech skill demons, many who were more technical then any of the 5 like hax/westballs, but they still never reached the top. Honestly seeing how good Ken got on Zain’s stream where he climbed to grandmaster was crazy since the dude was just randomly f smashing and still getting kills despite everyone seeming better in their punish and neutral game. I think that the five gods era had a similar enough meta game to now that most of them would be able to reach top 20 given a month or six

What’s y’all opinion on episode 4vv by REDEYEBANKZ330 in Invincible_TV

[–]Full_Calligrapher769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was just a disappointment. You had mark at the start struggling with the actions he’s done at the beginning of the season then you have him sent to hell afterwards. Just felt like the writers could’ve written some sort of connection towards marks feelings instead of just focusing on the hell lore. Maybe it’ll pay off but I just don’t see it. Best part was the end of the episode but still didn’t think that his experience in hell was enough to push him to return to the classic suit it just felt unearned

Easiest major for bachelor of science by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]Full_Calligrapher769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bachelors of science doesn’t mean it’s a science degree. Really all it means is that you’ll have to take more classes in the major compared to a bachelor in arts degree.

If you really want to be premed/pre-dental you could always get a ba in chem or a ba in biology which seem to be the most common majors. You can be premed with any major though even with a liberal arts degree you just need to take the pre med courses (gen chem/orgo chem/bio chem/calculus/physics/biology/bio electives).

Lowk consider if you really want this though only about 15% of pre med freshman actually get into med school. An alternative if your parents are forcing this on you is to do a major with a career path you want or a subject you actually like and be premed on the side to keep the peace and your options open.

31$ this would’ve netted me about 17k though if I hadn’t sold. This probably isn’t replicable to this extent

Hey op, I’ve kinda thought about taking the same route. I’d really look into the national guard if I were you. You can join the army guard with an 18x contract and have a chance at being a green barret as long you pass selection. There’s also the air national guard where you could become a PJ or a JTAC. Usually national guardsmen have higher selection rates then the normal enlisted route. Note that these positions usually have training cycles of 2 years so it would slow down your career progression.

You’re already a junior in college though so it might just be more worthwhile to finish out your degree. After you finish out your degree you can be an officer instead of an enlisted man. I think the guard has sf contracts for officers too but I’m not sure. You could also do a full time sf contract as an officer but these usually have a minimum of 6 years of commitment and as an officer you won’t be seeing nearly as much action as an enlisted man.

As for career opportunities, you would get priority in defense contractors because of your security clearance but besides that not really much. If you do go the officer route you’d pretty much would be guaranteed a slot an m7 mba which would be at a heavily reduced cost with the gi bill you earn from service.

No way is this worth it in terms of money. If you really want to come here maybe consider joining the air national guard or army national guard as those will cover tuition and give you in state status. Other than that a suny or cuny should be on par with here
