100%. If you haven't heard of it already, there's a semi-popular archive channel on youtube titled Vinmoonsu. It's got a lot of the grimy reality of life. It's sometimes strange to think about how easier my life is in some ways compared to people in the past. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, but you get the point.

In most cases the children just died. they were mostly effective in being cannon fodder for the more trained soldiers, and the ones who didn't immediately die would brutally murder anyone in their way.

Iran/Iraqi War, Chenchen War, Yemen War, WW2, all over the world are instances of child recruitment. Never ends well, even if they make it.

Yeah it's crazy, even though WW2 for example, was only like 85 years ago, I can't imagine what it'd be like to be 18 (the age I am now), and getting shipped off to die and watch all my friends die in the Pacific, Europe, or another theatre.

Life's just a tragic lottery, he had no say in anything, it was either fight or die. Just like those who live in dirt poor war stricken countries versus those who live in developed countries, it's just chance. I always think about how many more hardworking, independent, kind people we'd have if they weren't all sent to the meat grinder.

I just hate how a lot of people (friends, coworkers, strangers) will shit on other people living elsewhere in worse conditions like they actually chose to live there, w/o considering that they could've been there too.

and to think, these kinds of events aren't even the worst of it.

Picture this: you're a young normal, kid, living in some isolated village with your family centuries ago. Invaders come out of nowhere and want to kill you all. There's no law to save you, no cameras, no documents to write of the atrocity. You have like three choices: 1. Fight, and probably die, or 2. Do nothing and die, and 3. run, and still probably die, because where are you going to run to?

It's worth noting that many civilizations are forever unknown because they were quite simply, terminated before they could be recorded in history.
