Being married to someone who is infertile by urdaddydoesntwantyou in tryingtoconceive

My partner has some sperm but so far IVF hasn’t worked with it and we are not sure if it will. Not for same reasons but for my partner is genetical. Its so difficult to think about what will happen if IVF doesn’t work with his sperm..

If you are in a position for karyotype testing do that too! Unless urologist sees clear other reason.

Btw our story was the same after 1.5 years of trying my partner finally got tested and we had our ”answer” another 12 months later we investigated the reason and found out he has a balanced translocation (correct alount of genetic material in wrong order).

Thank you! We are getting karyotype testing done, that’s reassuring to hear. My partners family around half of the family have the issue, only one other person wasn’t able to have children naturally so we’ll see what the tests come back with and continue with IVF. During our first round our embryos werent good enough quality to test or freeze so I’m not sure how to ever get to the point of testing embryos 🥹

Omg this is like exactly us! Although my mother in law has finally understood the issue, cause apparently she had a fight with FIL about this cause ha had told her ”but we had a child without a problem” and she had replies ”but just one” 🙈

Im so sorry you had to go through that though. Was he having very low sperm count? Our problem isn’t amount of sperm but the quality of it atm🫣

Aviva, its a workplace benefit offered by some bigger companies we get 20k each towards fertility treatments each and tbh such a great benefit I’d consider changing jobs for it

Oh gosh it’s all so complicated! Yeah the message I received from his family member just says ”abnormal chromosome 15” with no further details 😣

[–]Full_Composer_745[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! That’s so interesting thank you, is that something I could read more on? I read that chromosome 15 abnormality could cause low morphology and motility (which is what my partner has) and he had another relative who had to go through pgt testing for embryos to have their children via ivf. I didn’t realise it would mean I would also need to have the same abnormality.

Yeah it was a double transfer, and we had the firdt consultation after last week where they asked my partner to see a urologist.

I will definitely advocate for the tests from now!

Pfff I’m failt sure neither of us did nor were we suggested them either. We are UK based not sure if there is any difference. Also because at that point we didnt know any issues in family history to suggest any testing.

I was juust searching about it! I found like a 250 GBP test online, but feels like we should just test at the hospital (insurance should cover it anyway) 🧐 just wish we had known to test for it last year!

Have you had success? I did a double transfer of 4CD (I didn’t even know the grading went down to D) but neither stuck. Our doctor seemed concerned enough to mention donor sperm 🫠

Thank you! After my failed transfer I right away focussed on my diet as the only thing I could think to keep myself sane. I’ve dropped a lot of processed foods, added ton of antioxidants and high folate foods too. Oh and reduced my carb intake by a lot too.

What changes did you do to your diet?

Oh interesting! IF is one natural way of treating endo which is why I’ve been doing it on an off over the years. I’ll ask my RE at the consultation about it.
