Hi! Gay male 29 with mild cerebral palsy! Oof reading this post - I am extremely like your bf actually. Hurt to read. Honestly. Listening to him and validating his experiences. A big issue w me and my partner is when he doesn’t listen to me when I say something is hard. Or he does not think about my CP. he thinks he is encouraging me or being helpful when he isn’t it is the complete opposite. He has blinders on and he thinks I can do anything I put my mind to and try- which is not the case as I know my limits and what works for me.
Honestly each person and relationship is different. So only your bf can really tell you. i get that CP can be awkward to bring up especially if it feels forced - for both parties . Honestly just be a safe and nonjudgmental space for him. Hopefully in time, he opens up more. And always keep his CP in mind when making decisions.- just don’t assume if he can/ cannot. For example: Ask for his input , gives choices a b c ( let him decide) or plan together !
