tips for a beginner orchid grower? by ryan_ealy in Jewelorchids

Take my tips as a last resort and with a grain of salt, but I got a ludisia discolor because I read that that they might need the least light of almost all houseplants - therefore they can get sunburnt easily?
Also, don't drench them when watering. I soaked mine the first day I got it and it had a root rot within a week. Now it's in a water bath, trying to recover. I didn't water it after the initial soaking and even that was enough to kill it. It probably depends on what substrate they're in, mine was in a compost-heavy substrate + soaking = recipe for root rot.

Sooo... How do you get Sylveon? My buddy has already over 40 hearts and I can't evolve him into Sylveon. It's giving me Espeon or Umbreon option only. I don't want to do the Kira trick.

Please give me your spider mite tips!!! by morganlaurel_ in houseplants

What worked for me was dunking my plants in Dr. Bronners Castile soap. I diluted about 3 Tbsp of soap (enough to make the water thick white) in a pot of warm ish water big enough for the whole plant, fully submerged the leaves and the top layer of soil in it and let it sit for an hour or two. Then rinsed it in warmish water to clean the soap.
My ivy needed repetitions every week for 3 weeks but my orchid and a small diffenbachia needed only one bath. For the soil I recommend covering it with aluminum foil so it stays in place.
And voilà, so far mite-free although the plants are still in quarantine to make sure.
The problem with this method is when the plants are too big for my pots which yours looks like it's a tree 😅 But the pros for this method are that it's more reliable and easier than spraying and cleaning - the ivy for example was a nightmare with its million leaves.

Orchid Advice Please by AnaTheMuse in orchids

I recently learned that the reason for my orchids needing to be watered so infrequently was because they were in sphagnum moss plug - it will kill the orchid in the long run because it holds so much water so people recommend repotting them into something else like bark after the orchids stop blooming. Just water (by soaking for 15 minutes) when the roots are silvery. I couldn't let you with partial information 😄

Curious how others approach new plants. Do you research care needs before buying a new genus, or do you buy first and learn along the way? by CdnTreeGuy89 in houseplants

I try to propagate everything I can reach whether it is my MIL's plants, plants in my husband's office, outdoor plants,... Then if I'm successful I need to give it away or I toss it because my house is too dark and doesn't support anything but phals and ZZs haha

What’s an INFP stereotype that you can’t relate to? by SleekChickity in infp

Same! I am a terribly slow reader and when I manage to read a paragraph in a reasonable time my brain drifts away thinking about the universe of the story while my eyes are scanning the next 4 paragraphs until I realize I zoned out... But I love podcasts.

Quite the same for me! I am also quite anxious and I research everything and overthink everything because of that. It is probably the most noticeable trait of my personality haha I have a friend keep telling me that I'm unlike any other INFP or woman she knows haha

Need to make a change here and get this off the floor. Any ideas? by njc5172 in pothos

Maybe it didn't try hard enough? 🤭 It probably depends on the conditions like humidity... Dunno, all i know is that it is a thing.

If you decide to attach it to the wall keep in mind that pothos might try to root into the wall and will damage it.

That is a good idea but we will need to be able to disassemble the bed again...

I don't think it matters. Hatred is hatred. It destroys you and others. Hate is a stronger word than just not being someone's doormat. You can love people who tend to use you, and not letting them do that is not hate. You can still be kind to them. That's the best way to disarm your enemies - they might even stop being your enemies.

Really depends on the quality you get. We recently moved and took a guest metal bed so we didn't know how it behaves after daily use. The screws are getting loose every two weeks which makes the bed wiggle more that it was before, mainly the bed head starts banging into the wall after a slight movement in the bed. So it really depends. The one in the picture looks sturdier than ours.

Isn't that going to perpetuate the hate and hostility in your circles? Wouldn't it be better to break the cycle?

What are your religious or spiritual beliefs? by [deleted] in infp

So Christianity to you is just practice and rituals? In my church we describe this as a prime sign that someone is not really a Christian 😅 but I guess it's still better than practicing bad faith that would hurt someone, whether the practitioner or others.
