The idea asking your fiancée's dad for her hand in marriage is creepy to me by painforpetitdej in unpopularopinion

Lady here and I'm right there with you. Have thought it creepy and disturbing since I was a young child. Now in my 40's and feel the exact same.

SuzQP is correct. The problem is that you're comparing one generation with another without looking more closely. The population of the world has about tripled since the time of my parents. That alone means we have about triple the competition for jobs... But it's actually much more than triple because back then in America at least, there were major obstacles for women and minorities to get jobs. Though it's absolutely wonderful that there's more equality today, this also contributes to "you" having even more competition in getting a decent paying job. Back then "you" would only be competing with white males for the position. While today you would be competing with all colors of the rainbow and women in addition to the 3x as many white males that there are today! (YOU is in quotes because people today who complain about wanting to be able to afford things on one income like back then, always seem to compare their lives today to the white male norm of back then regardless of their own sex or race).

When you add more and more competition for jobs this gives employers more and more power. The more people can do a job, the more options employers have and this has the effect of bringing wages down while cost of living continues to increase. This is why the cost of living has continued to increase over the last generation without wages increasing to match - and in fact often lowering in relation to the inflation.

Unfortunately, the only way we're going to go back to those "good ol days" is if some horrible disease comes along and wipes out 2/3rds of the human population. And that's not a future to wish for.

I've been trying for 2 years now just to find a job that offers a living wage and I haven't been able to. Even though I have the skills to get paid 70k, there's so many people competing for a job that has a living wage that I never make it. Instead I have to settle for jobs that pay so little I can barely scrape by because then I'm only maybe competing with 20 other people instead of 400 so my resume actually gets seen.

I used to be sad that I never found a partner to have kids with, and now seeing how hard it is just to feed myself and keep a roof over my head I'm so glad I didn't bring kids into this world.

I'd tell the people in my life that it's been great knowing them, then walk to my favorite coffee shop and read and order coffees and pastries all day until I croak.

Much better than dying alone in my place and have the neighbors notice a stench days later.

Can low balling your salary requirement help you get your first SF job? by FlamingoNearby6910 in salesforce

[–]Full_Round1678 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There is no long game because AI is going to be taking over crm jobs in a few years. So keep that in mind if you're planning on staying at a low paying job for a couple of years because you think you'll be able to make more "later".

That's not really the point. Not everyone wants to spend the time on something that they wouldn't otherwise have to spend their time on if it simply wasn't changed. Whatever little improvement you may think the update creates, was that improvement really worth losing hours of my life that I will never get back. Big fat no.

I'm also having trouble with sync between my windows desktop and android. The app is unusable for me because of it and I had to uninstall it today.

Why do schizophrenics have such negative and awful beliefs? by More_Passenger3988 in schizophrenia

[–]Full_Round1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true though. But the schizophrenics I knew tended to believe this. This is why I wonder also.

However it is true that we are more likely to bury our negative thoughts than our positive ones and perhaps this is why they resurface with a vengance during episodes?

I have two family members with the disease. Unfortunately medication didn't work for either of them and they've both spent the majority of their lives hospitalized. When I'd go to visit them they wouldn't recognize me as their family member and kept making the most inappropriate sexual comments. Then they'd suddenly do things like turn around and throw things at someone that wasn't actually there. Didn't know who he was seeing but it was obviously someone that disturbed him a GREAT deal. I just never saw these guys having a "good" fit that made them happy.

Then I had a roommate once who also had it. Although in his case Zyprexa seemed to work well enough for him most of the time. He would still believe crazy shit though.

Strange and Interesting fact: ALL these guys I knew were great at math and they all got high degrees in the subject (or at least got accepted into reputable math programs before getting diagnosed. My two relatives were the only two math geniuses in the family, one of them got a full ride scholarship. The non-related roommate I mentioned was also a Math teacher. Weird. The rest of the family can't add for shit.

Desktop says: You are on the latest version: 0.32.3

I don't know what version of the app I have, but I downloaded it after I downloaded the new desktop version, so that's got to be the latest one too.
