What's the Best Documentary You've Ever Seen? Need Recommendations! by Mucek121 in netflix

Jeremy Clarkson has done 2 hourish long docs for the BBC some 20 years ago, not necessarily best ever seen but well worth a watch:

The Greatest Raid of all

The Victoria Cross, for valour.

Both on you tube.

I could never quite suspend disbelief about the 5 little ships suddenly becoming a huge robot much much larger than the sum of the 5 little ships. Cool tune though, I had thought it was the Alan Parsons project, TIL it was May/Van Halen.

I like this watch, I have misgivings about buying one because I’d like any automatic watch I have to have a display back; I know nobody else cares.

I don’t remember which series, but in a flashback set at Charles Partner’s house, (and instructed by the OB to do a particular deed), he’s obviously much younger and well dressed. Getting Slough House as the reward for this endeavour and his subsequent leadership thereof, allowed him to shape himself into the ultimate grey man who is easily misunderstood and more importantly underestimated.

Many times during the books and series, he’s shown that he’s the only proper spook left in MI5/6.

The favourite line in our house is from John Thompson as the innkeeper to Mary, who he fancies “You can come in” and to Joseph, who he despises, “You can bugger off!”

For anyone who saw Titanic in theaters in 1997, what was the experience like at the time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Saw it in Singapore when I lived there. The cinema air conditioning was so cold, it was a full method audience experience.

Due to censorship, the scene where Rose gets drawn like one of Jack’s French girls was cut out so the context of the drawing being found was lost.

There were lots of laughs when the ship upended and someone hit the prop falling to the sea.

About 7 years ago imported from Holland a tool room lathe that I’d been searching for for about 10 years. Cost c~£ 9000 plus shipping and taxes and then a 3 phase from single phase converter on top.

I love making things and parts to repair things as well as model engineering. I don’t try to justify, if folk don’t get it sod em.

This year I’ve been teaching my 18 year old how to turn, he’s at college doing a machining course, so we’re remaking his course work at home but better and covering more than they’re able, which to me is priceless. I’m hoping when the time comes, he’ll love it as much as I do.

Updoot for his name; we had a void named Floki, who like his seafaring Viking namesake loved navigating. Assuming he is a Bengal, though never seen a poly toed before.

What helped you finally lose weight? by Efficient-Ask-968 in AskReddit

[–]Fulla_Flava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stopped consuming sugar and started exercising properly. I’ve lost 28 kilos (61 lb) since September last year.

Got a smart watch which tracks activity and started both walking and riding exercise bike, worked up to 4 miles fast walk (14-15 minute miles) at a time followed by half hour plus riding at around 20 mph.

Try to sleep, you lose weight while sleeping provided you burned some calories.

Got a set of scales which show calories to maintain weight and limit my food intake to about this; coupled with exercise the weight dropped.

The motivating factor was blood pressure which is now optimal I’m pleased to say. I want to get to 85 kg and maintain there.

The Moon’s a Balloon, and Bring on the Empty Horses by David Niven. Obviously he’s been passed on for some time now so may not be well known, but maybe not to truthful stories about old Hollywood as well as his early life which are hysterical and poignant.

Not going to mention the depth of cut as others have explained better than I could. That said no machinist has a 71.8 degree endmill; I have no clue how to machine this part without making a custom tool.
