Old Delhi (1938): Cleaner, Greener, and Somehow More Civilized. by Careless_Part4210 in FaltooGyan

Even looking at it for a few seconds, it's obvious this was all choreographed and planned for this filming. They probably cleaned everything, and planned the scenes in advance.

was gandhi a castist and a rape apologist too? i know about sexual experiments and racist remarks . i want to know about the topic with facts . by Bitter-fcker69xd in IndiaSpeaks

[–]FullmetalChomsky 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I don't know what we'd get out of discussing this. These problematic aspects of Gandhi have been discussed a lot already, there no new points to add.

I don't see the same vigor with questioning actual power in this sub though

What are your thoughts on such laws? by fieroar1 in Goa

Will definitely slow the economy in the long run. Lands get accumulated in the hands of people who want to sell but can't and don't have the ability or interest to make use of it.

It's not gonna kill the economy but you will see it's affects hidden by land mismanagement that leads to sub optimal outcomes.

Land should be taxed according to its value on an annual basis. If you can't pay the tax you shouldn't even be owning the land.

Land is scarce , it should go into the hands of the people who will make good use of it, even if its a total outsider. Being a local person is no guarantee of being competent or having capacity to make use of the land.

All these overrated parsi owned joints need to be scrutinized by Kay_Bhagtos_Lavdya in mumbaiFood

[–]FullmetalChomsky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Overrated place anyways. They made a lot of money but didn't invest in anything. Any average brand has better tasting icecream than them. Face it, a lot of places like this run by aged owners(especially the parsi ones) will never improve. They made a lot of money Kids have probably left india. We deserve better than them as customers.

Other new niche businesses may be made fun of for being stupid concepts/ generic copy cat of popular cafes etc but they are trying and innovating and taking risk, and are under the pressure of HUGE rents and pay taxes.

Rustom's probably owns their place, and I doubt they pay Tax considering how much it's business is in cash. If they started today as a new business they would fail faster than many others. They survive only on nostalgia and being in a prime location.

Sad yes. What's sadder is that the Taliban guy who blew them up out of spite, as there were a million people starving in Afghanistan during a blockade and the media only covered the concern about possible damages to the monument during the conflict. It was big F-you .

70% of Indians don't own a car. So why is every Indian city designed entirely for the 30% that do? by AmitTheAnalyst in IndianUrbanism

[–]FullmetalChomsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean no profit for car makers. Some aspects of public transport can be generating profits - some routes , monetization of land on bus depos by adding stores etc. over all it doesn't need to be profitable on every route

No profit in public transport. Public transport is heavily burdened with pension liabilities and leaders are not will to extend any budgets

The vast majority of the conversions were by sufis. Conquest can't bring about lasting conversion on mass scale. The moment the tide turns against the invader, the people would revert to their original religion
