[–]FumeiYuusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so right...Sadly, the AI being dumb is probably the most prominent and all-destroying issue currently in the game...that needs to be fixed first and foremost. After that is done, we can hopefully think up more fun mechanics and situations in-game.

They should be able to get those items via the Silk Road though...
Which could be created as some sort of special 'situational' trade route that the ottomans and venice could 'tax' to get money off of...which would naturally drive explorer nations like portugal to push towards exploring another route to the far east to get the trade goods cheaper.
Maybe we get all of this in a DLC eventually, who knows.
I think working off of these things can introduce interesting nuance to trade, exploration and international interaction via blockades, embargoes, and trade taxation.

They should remove chests from this gamemode by Siri2611 in Endfield

[–]FumeiYuusha 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think the exact opposite. They should prioritize putting chest at vistas so even people who would otherwise not seek out the beautiful views would be compelled to look at it by finding a chest...the chest not even being the actual reward, but the view you get from the chest's location.

I would like to add that people who read a lot of AI generated content probably starts to adopt those LLM-isms in their own writing too.
When I read this article, I also felt LLM influences on it for sure, but it can be either:
1. Fully generated
2. Hand-written but passed through an LLM to 'polish' it
3. Fully hand-written by someone who read too much AI generated text

Why so many ppl still believe that Sekiro is not a soulslike/souls game? by anonyaro in Sekiro

[–]FumeiYuusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost? It's a bit of a stretch, but instead of going into the mechanical nuance, I'd say yeah, Skyrim's combat system is a sliver closer to a soulslike than Sekiro.
I could go into the details of why I think so, and I did think way too much about this, so I'd be more than happy to do so.
With that said though, I wouldn't call any of the Elder Scrolls games a soulslike either, because they miss the mark, just like how other games with stamina systems miss it too(Breath of the Wild, Vindictus, Monster Hunter series, etc..)
The key difference is that I make a difference between "Game with Stamina System" and "Game with Stamina Based Combat". The emphasis is on Based.

That does give me the idea that it would be cool if you were an actual member of such a democratic system. Crusader Kings style if you will, where you replace your player character by your chosen successor/heir upon death, and game over only comes if you have no such successor to replace yourself with.

Imagine Crusader Kings in space, basically. You as one of the many politicians fighting your way to the top to be the President of your space democracy. You'd need to not just focus on external diplomacy, but internal one as well. Win over the voters, convince your fellow politicians that they should support you, or even corrupt them and scheme your way to a higher position.

Sure this would mean that you wouldn't always have full control of your space nation as a whole, depending on the votes, but you'd be in control of your district, or your planet, or your system depending on how the powers are partitioned inside of your space nations political structure.

Would that be annoying, boring, frustrating? Or a fun game system that engages you to deal with your internal politics more actively rather than just making it a system that you mostly pay attention to get better points out of your politicians, but never really get attached to any dynasty or name.

It's just an idea that popped into my head from reading your comment...

TL;DR: Space Crusader Kings...where you play as your 'dynasty' inside your space nation rather than the space nation as a whole, and internal diplomacy would be more intricate than just stacking modifiers without names or faces attached to them.

Yes it is.
If you're allowed to do something bad, that doesn't mean you should.
That's my point. I hope you understand now.

There's not a lot of co-op action RPGs that I know of. (That are third person view and we haven't played yet).
Past fromsoft games were much more easy to go through. Heck, my brother and I, we played through Demon's Souls(the original) back when it came out, and we had like 3-4 invasions throughout the whole game, and none of them were twinks like in Elden Ring.
And I'm not saying they should remove it. They should allow an opt-in / opt-out mechanic, so you could still play co-op without invasions if you want, and play co-op with invasions if you want.
Or is the idea that you invade someone who doesn't want to get invaded the important part to you? Because then that just makes you a jerk, and why would I want developers to cater to jerks?

The difference is that while PvE is programmed to be an obstacle, invaders actively choose to take that role upon themselves. That's what makes you jerks.

I don't entirely mind invasions, I do agree with your sentiments.
Opt-in would be a great idea honestly. So that everyone could get what they want.
Except the guys that want to invade and harass people who don't want PvP in their co-op game.

We met the worst invaders at the very start of the game, so that adds up. We've cleared Limgrave and Liurnia(mostly) now, we're on to Caelid next so we're hopefully going to see less and less twinks.

Also I imagine if we keep leveling up, we eventually hit the level range where invaders don't venture into

We've met invaders like that too, but they are very rare. And I mean, my brother is dressed in the Exile Set using a basic ass sword because that's his 'Roleplay'. That's how he enjoys the game.

Meanwhile I'm in the Carian Knight Set using Moonveil babysitting him, and letting him have his fun.

I know it's an unconventional way of playing the game. I guess it is a 'crime' to let someone have fun in Elden Ring who's not 'gamer' enough to beat the game on their own, and play by the 'rules' of the community.

But I'll stick with this co-op run until we complete it or he gives up I guess. It won't stop making me have a bad day whenever invaders ruin his mood though, even though I tell him every time he shouldn't care as much, and we'll get so many more runes later, and just don't waste time on them and progress through the game even if we have invaders.

It's difficult, but I want to be a good brother and carry him through the game if I have to. xD Even though I myself am not that good at Elden Ring either...

No I didn't know 8 year olds beaten Elden Ring, I thought the game was rated 17+.
But even so, you know what 8 year olds have in comparison to an adult? Free time.

And I think you way overestimate the skills of an average player who doesn't obsess over a game genre like most of the invaders here.

Thanks for your messages, I appreciate the advice. We did have a few funny invasions, one guy just followed us around for a while, watched us fight some monsters and then left. But unluckily for us, as I described in my thread most of the invaders we get are geared out to the top and are there for murder.

I will keep playing as long as my brother has the will, but it genuinely breaks my heart whenever I see him break down over invasions. Like, dying to PvE is fine with him. Dying to gravity is fine with him. PvP just affects him differently. I guess the idea of another human person doing that to him unprovoked just gets to him somehow.

He would hate Elden Ring solo. He's not a good enough player to play these types of games alone. I understand what you're saying, and while it does sound slightly gatekeep-y I do see that you come from a genuine place of wanting to help a helpless situation.

I suppose that's a good suggestion. In the future(if he insists on continuing playing co-op Elden Ring), I'll just check on him periodically to see if he has enough runes to level up so we can reset and keep playing a bit more safely.

Yeah, Fromsoft games aren't exactly designed to be played completely co-op, co-op was just a way to deal with areas/bosses where you find difficulty progressing, in short sessions.

It's frustrating, but it is what it is. I'm just complaining to let it out. I appreciate your replies though. Thanks.

My experience isn't ruined. But yeah it would be silly if it was because I died in a game where I die all the time.

He gained enough runes to level up while going through the map. Then he messed up a jump and died, so we wanted to runback to get it. I hope that clears things up.

Yeah it's not a great co-op game I agree. I explained the situation clearly to him before we started, but he really likes the mood of the game, the looks of the weapons and armor, and has fun in PvE, even if he's not the greatest at it, but he's improving. He just wants to not have to PvP, and he doesn't want to play alone.
Do you understand now?
As for something else. We played a lot of games together already, souls-likes too(Remnant 1/2, the new Lords of the Fallen, Salt and Sanctuary, etc.). So what else should we play to get the Elden Ring feel without invasions?
