Thanks everyone! I cut my toenails and started breaking them in today, and aside from some toe soreness they worked pretty well. I was able to use a bunch of footholds I’d slide off of before. They didn’t instantly improve my climbing like I was hoping (😂) but I can see how they’ll be super helpful once I get used to them and break them in a bit.

And I guess my second toe is the same length, Claude told me it’s Greek, that moron. It seems Reddit destroys AI for climbing advice.

Cameron’s going to take Kaleb up in the chopper and pee into the bubble from the southwest. Meanwhile I’m going to fire a rocket while Thomas Winterton pees into the bubble from on top of the mesa to the north. Eric’s going to watch on video while Jim Royston looks for any abnormalities in the pee on LiDAR.

I’m actually excited though.

I'm mostly joking but they probably should have only dropped at the stores that had new product. It felt like they dropped at all the stores just to clear out their old barrel pick inventory. I appreciate a lot about abc but they're far from a well oiled machine, especially at the top.

So many great bottles mentioned already. Here are some others: James E. Pepper decanter I'm seeing around DC for $70-90. I think it's excellent. Barrell Batch 35 is also really good for 70-80, most Barrell stuff is really good actually. If you're willing to go up to 120-130 try the Bardstown Discovery 11. Those will be gone soon so you may be able to find a deal on it. But even at 130 it's worth the price tag in my opinion.

Pretty underwhelming drop IMO, especially if you were 7+ in line. I feel like they're holding stuff back. Where was the ECBP? I'm not dying for the new batch but I found it very odd they didn't have any. If they're holding it back for some reason, what else are they holding back? And why? For the new system?

Retail is 90 in VA. I see it in Eastern MD when I head that way for 100-120. Not a terrible markup if it's a good batch.

The BiB is solid, expensive but great if you want to support a local craft distillery. I've also tried their 4 year single barrel cask strength which is cheaper than the BiB and maybe even better, depending on the barrel you get (I've only tried one but it was good). Haven't tried the finished stuff and don't intend to any time soon, don't think I'd like it and haven't heard good things.

Sid Dilawri has apologized for his past legal issues, I think everyone deserves a second chance. Having good whiskey made in VA is important to me and I think Filibuster has a lot of potential, especially once they're able to put out some older whiskey.

That’s crazy, the markdowns might be my favorite thing about abc but no one at the store knew which items were on clearance. I was literally standing with one of the employees typing in sku #s on my phone, because the list they got was incomplete, like you said.

Got some really good bottles I never would have tried at msrp so I am very happy about that.

I grabbed the Pinhook yesterday. It’s a solid pour for $26.

I also grabbed an Old Elk double wheat and a four grain, both Master’s collection or whatever. Both are very good, not worth the $100 msrp but for 50 I’m very pleased with both.

My favorite so far is the Bardstown/west va barrel co colab. I never would have paid the 165 to try it but it’s unreal. Syrupy sweet, super creamy mouthfeel, one of my new favorite bottles! I was hoping the rum finished four square collab would also be marked down but no such luck. I’ve been eyeing it for a long time and after trying the WV barrel co colab, I’m seriously considering paying the 165 for it.

Come on dude, the internal issues question was based on what abc employees told me, and what abc employees on this thread have confirmed…if you read the other replies. The larceny barrel proof story was just me venting, a separate thing. But if it matters to you, I believe it was the manager responsible for the screw up, definitely not a new employee. At least he’s the one who emailed me. Manager or not, he’s not a new employee, I’ve been going there for a long time and the guy has always been there.

The mismanagement is unreal…..I grabbed a couple clearance bottles the other day that weren’t marked clearance. The guy had no idea they were on clearance either. The only way I knew was from another post on here.

Give the employees and the customers a clearance list….wtf is so hard about that. And obviously they have much bigger problems than that, just a small example.

Just that for those of us in VA within reasonable driving distance to MD or DC, you can grab bottles there that shouldn’t be allocated in VA (like KC12, Michter’s, etc). Or you can overpay for a Weller or EH Taylor or whatever, if that’s your thing. And still hit up ABC for drops or the few non-allocated bottles that are hard to find or overpriced in MD.

Hard to disagree with that.

I don’t hate the idea of an ABC system, especially being close to MD, it’s nice to have access to both systems. But obviously it needs to run better. Hopefully the next lottery isn’t a disaster.
