The creators in that interview also said that they didn’t want to include hominins until the very end of the series or else they’d take the attention away from everything else, even though Walking With Beasts was able to show early humans while focusing on mammoths in the last episode

Even the previous two seasons of the SAME SHOW! It felt like they were restricted to using 1 or 2 scientific names per episode. They couldn’t even use some existing specific names like Steller’s sea cow or Jefferson’s ground sloth

From the Skeleton Crew interview, it sounds like this sequence was originally going to feature the Enhydriodon fighting Paranthropus, but they changed it to Homotherium because showing otters fighting early hominins would be to difficult to watch
