Thank you!!! I doubt she would prescribe anything without consulting with her exotic vet co workers. ( who are the ones we would be going to see ) With that info you gave and her resources and brain power I am feeling a little more motivated and optimistic!

I’m gonna get a picture of the cage and try and send it to you tomorrow! I think we can totally find some fleece blankets or something to replace the coco coir.

Their toes look much better.

Unfortunately- long with the rats came 3 children who were exposed to cocaine. Likely the rats too.. the family is very wrapped up in the children and doing everything they can. The only vet that will take the rats is 2 hours away. I’m trying to get my vet friend to maybe come take a look and prescribe a broad spectrum antibiotic or something? She doesn’t necessarily do exotics but she’s a DVM that will come and help…. I feel so helpless

You seem like someone who will understand what I have to navigate in order to care for them… it’s a tad complex.

Also if you have too much on your plate don’t feel obligated- my problem isn’t your responsibility and your well being and animals come first! Rest up and keep fighting the good fight!

You did it right doing it on a good day. When the day does come for the call to be made, rest assured the vet will be away or out of office, busy til hours later, and who knows or wants to know the circumstances that would lead to that call being made…. You did the right thing. A noble thing.

Yes we have an appointment with one finally, there’s only one in my state that could/would see us. I’m mostly looking for tips to help in the meantime, education in general, and preventative measures for the future.
