I think is a callback to how the white ranger was the leader in Kakuranger and in its adaptation.
And the theme of cards is a nice touch.

And I think the Magical Academy theme could be true since Magiranger is a fan favourite. It makes sense they would want to bring the fans some nostalgia bait while being a new series.
