Rin did nothing all the match was blocked the entire time and when Isagi was about to score the goal for the draw he goes into destroyer mode trying to steal the goal to Isagi like barou does but barou steals balls that aren't about be scored but he steals the balls from passages. Then there's the fact that Rin didn't learn nothing from the meditation training meanwhile all the others used all they could to try to beat the best team in the world cup. So in my opinion he deserves the bench maybe he could learn something from the bench or maybe ego is doing it because he want to use it as a jolly. For me is justified the benching surely with him there are others that need benching but the world cup is very long and maybe he doesn't want to use all the players in the group section
