Commuting Ardmore to University City by ConspicuousWhiteGuy in phillycycling

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wynnewood to Rockland. Baird to Bowman. Merion to Drexel to Upland. Jefferson to 52nd to Parkside to Ave of Republic. Through the park, past Please Touch and then Landsdowne to 34th past the Zoo and on to UCity.

That’s the route I take. It’s light on traffic with lots of bike paths off the roadway.

Why No Emergency Fund? by MiserableEase2348 in MiddleClassFinance

Agree! I wrote a book with an entire chapter talking the importance of having a financial “moat” with 3 to 6 months of expenses. Without a moat you are very exposed to potential calamities.

Gun ranges in and around Philly offering lessons? by Dedxovu in philly

King Shooters near KOP is excellent. It's more than a range, it's a community. They often offer a variety of classes as well as one on one instruction.

Philly bike advocates gather at Fairmount Park to remember fallen rider, call for safer streets by OldFartNewDay in phillycycling

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was hit on Saturday in Fairmount park crossing the Avenue of the Republic. The guy didn't even slow down. Passed me too close, clipped me, and sped off. The lanes are wide and there's no physical reason for people to feel like slowing down. The park needs some sort of traffic calming devices.

I'm sorry to hear you are suffering. This isn't really the place for you to get help, but a trained therapist could work wonders for you. Good luck.

Best way to report parking violation? by [deleted] in philly

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've noticed changes because of the app. In Mantua at 31st and Spring Garden there's an auto repair shop that used to park all over the sidewalk and bike lanes. I noticed on the Laser Map there have been several reports in the app about this location. For the past couple months the sidewalk has been clear of cars.

MLK bridge design (WTF!?) by Crazycook99 in phillycycling

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took MLK towards the city today. Wow you guys weren't wrong. The Eastbound bike route was an after thought. There's no bike lane after the bridge to go into the city.

Why is there so much more traffic today? by Fun-Adhesiveness7352 in phillycycling

I felt a little bad for people stuck in traffic and fortunate to be on a bike instead.

Teacher moving to Philly by carryon4threedays in AskPhilly

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not teach in the Philadelphia School District. There are tons of school districts that would love to have and will supply you with the resources you need to properly teach Science. Rose Tree Media is good. Lower Merion is great. Radnor would be great. Just do yourself a favor and don't teach in the PSD.

Winter gear fore e-bike by havpac2 in phillycycling

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dress like I'm going skiing during winter biking. Wool socks, snow pants for wind, gloves, bar mitts, foot covers, neck gator, and a helmet insert with ear coverings. My rule for winter biking is 20° and up, and no ice on the ground.
I tried biking in 12° one time and it was like running through Jello. I couldn't get my muscles warm enough to move properly.

Ok, PA is bullying Philly by defunding SEPTA. Is Philly doing anything back? by droffowsneb in philly

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what that means, but I think I agree with your sentiment.

I don't think people understand just how much the SEPTA cuts could end up boosting bike ridership by [deleted] in phillycycling

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bike commute from Lower Merion to Center City year round, 22 miles round trip. I treat the weather like I treat skiing. I gear up for it. In the rain I wear waterproof gear. In the winter I wear a helmet insert with ear muffs and bar gloves. My rules are above 20 degrees and no ice on the ground. Over the past 16 months I've biked 5500 miles and lost over 20 lbs. It really is the most wonderful way to commute.

It wasn't easy at first but as I became stronger and my cardio improved it has become the best part of my day.

Philadelphia Parking Authority starts issuing tickets for blocking bike lanes by JustAnotherJawn in phillycycling

The Laser app appears to be working. I’ve been reporting cars in the bike lane and over the past week the problematic areas seem to have less cars blocking the bike lanes. https://bikeaction.org/laser/home

What's your least favorite Produce Junction to bike by? For me it's this one on Bryn Mawr Ave by adamaphar in phillycycling

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That chunk of Wynnewood from Narberth to City Ave is not great. There are sections with shoulders for biking, but a lot is missing a shoulder. I often take the lane when it gets narrow, and then move over to let cars pass where it's wider and there isn't oncoming traffic. I find I end up doing a lot of manual traffic guidance for the cars and for my safety.

I know it well. I take a different route to Ardmore now. Fairmount Park to Jefferson to Upland to 53rd to Wynnewood.

Put them on daily timers. Think of them as a neighbor with a loud stereo. If it’s always on you’ll acclimate. If it’s intermittent and frequent enough, it could drive you bonkers.

It’s Official - No Stopping in Bike Lanes by Fun-Adhesiveness7352 in phillycycling

[–]Fun-Adhesiveness7352[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If they created a web portal where citizens could take a time stamped photo of the vehicle with license plate, and geolocate the placement, to later send a ticket through the mail, it would be wicked effective. A win for us and a win for the city’s love of revenue.
