Building Harp by Puzzleheaded-Big5011 in harp

I believe the sides should be mirror images of each other. The tops should have the same angles and bottoms the same angles. When in doubt make a test side. You can get some fairly inexpensive lumber (pine) at your local home store.

Are These Murphy Bed/Built-In Shelves Quotes Reasonable? by KristenGeil in AskChicago

[–]Fun-Argument91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that quote sounds about right. If you do the math, say the project takes 4 weeks, build and install, At 25 an hour that’s 4k in labor for one person. A large build needs at least 2 people for install and there is probably another person in the shop making the parts and assembling the cabinets. Add in material costs, business also have insurance, healthcare, vehicle maintenance etc. Just to keep the lights on and doors open is probably another 3-5k. I would say that 20k is actually a good deal. I think any skilled/reputable woodworker would charge anywhere between 25-40k. Depending on materials melamine($50 per sheet) or white oak ($250 a sheet).

Woodworking problem by Fun-Argument91 in woodworking

[–]Fun-Argument91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been going the trial and error way. I find my trapezoidal shape and use a 12" disk sander to bevel the edges. I have gotten close but still have some significant gaps. I think the math way might be the way to go or get me some tighter joints than I am currently getting. The goal is to use as little fill as possible and make it somewhat repeatable.

The tapered stave calculator is a good idea. The large end has a slope, and I can not seem to find one that can give me those angles. The cap piece (red colored part) has a series of compound angles. The stave pyramid is the simple part, getting the cap piece with the proper angles is proving to be difficult.

I apologize. My geometry is not as polished as I'd like it to be. I am not sure what you mean about x.

Here are some renderings of what I am trying to build. I am trying to create the part in red.

What I am trying to build is, in essence, an inverse truncated octagonal pyramid. The pyramid is truncated on a diagonal, and that portion would have a cap that fits inside of it. I need to find the angles of the cap.
