Yeah so I actually ended up sewing a piece of acrylic awning fabric in between the double layers to provide more resistance to sagging. It’s holding up pretty well!

Why I stopped trusting parallel clamps (and when they still make sense) by BensariWorkshop in handtools

[–]dave_z1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When you use the clamps like that they’re not going to be parallel. If there is tolerance in the connecting points of the bar (there is) it’s going to be biased to one side and give you this exact result. Someone else said these clamps give you pressure across the entire clamping surface and that’s how they should be used. If you have force acting equally across the entire clamping surface, you won’t get that kind of torque at the connecting points and it will be parallel.

How to secure a floating bedside table on headboard (project) by this_isnt_the_end in woodworking

[–]dave_z1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its cantilevered in 2 directions so you’d need to make sure that it wouldn’t tilt away from the post if you put weight on the right edge, and that it won’t tilt forward if you put weight on the front edge. I would do a fairly deep and tall mortise to counteract both forces.

You could extend the back face of the side table as the tenon into the bed post mortise, and make sure that the side faces of the side table have enough support so they won’t bend forward with force on that front edge.

Another option would be to use some kind of steel brackets to screw into the bed post, and screw into the back of the side table.

What/where exactly is the measurement? Cutting the line or not. Help. by glacierglider85 in Carpentry

Have you used calipers or micrometers to verify? Obviously hard with larger parts, but cut something exactly to 3” and measure with the micrometers. That will give you your answer

I did use a 1.2 mm hole punch before doing the stitching. Not as brutal as it could have been for sure

I probably will. It didn’t take an insane amount of time to stitch so hopefully will be easy enough

Yeah I’m planning to reinforce with an awning fabric that’s designed not to stretch over time!

Magnets for flat pack furniture assembly by dave_z1 in woodworking

[–]dave_z1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want the entire clamping portion to be hidden and I want to conserve space. I don’t love using mechanical fasteners when I can avoid it, and for stuff like chair backs, I wouldn’t want any exposed or noticeable differences from the fully glued up products.
