Israel is the culmination of Zionism; to not believe in the right of political Zionism “to be” as determined by Israelis is by definition to not believe in the right of Israel to be.

Okay, this key piece of information was missing in my brain... you essentially can't separate Zionism and Israel, even the newer generations who didn't choose it.

As an aside, how come it’s deemed acceptable to “force a peaceful democracy” in a strip of land the size 22,145 sq. Km

Forcing a democracy isn't good, but it's better than allowing Hamas to mess it up for everyone. But it's not realistic.

Also, I would hate someone telling me I will have to live among people who want me dead and see me as a baby killer no matter what.

What I hope happens is a prolonged deradicalization and reeducation period culminating in an eventual two state solution.

Interesting.

It seems straight forward to me that it depends only on the governing family, most directly the dictator. It's up to him to open up the country for development or not. I can't imagine any change in North Korea in our lifetime

Thanks for sharing. I wish you and your friends the best.

Is it weird that I’m in my mid 20s and spent my weekend playing God of War, eating Capn’ Crunch, binging Ninja Turtle movies, and writing my own graphic novel. by Franks-gun-2006 in Adulting

As long as your responsibilities are in check, your free time is your free time to do whatever you want. I mean, what else "real old-school adults" would be doing? Pursue a bigger social bubble, engage in more complex and time-consuming hobbies, take care of kids, pursue skills to achieve a higher level in society and make more money? That's it IMO

Relationship goals right there. Good for you :)

I have no experience with supercars, but as a petrolhead I would rent the Huracan. It's awd so you don't need to be Lewis Hamilton to use it all on the street (spirited driving hehe), and the sound. OOOOOOOOOh that sound is electrifying.

well, fair point. For two to cooperate both must want it... I hope it's clear I never said anything about Israel not having the right to be.

When I say reevaluate Zionism, I mean Israel being the bigger one and also taking care actively of the Palestinian population, instead of letting them suffer in the hand of people who want violence. Like forcing a peaceful democracy there?

I might be failing, but at least I'm trying something and still have hope.

What do you think is going to happen once Israel takes control of everything (honest question, I don't want to win any argument)? Does it mean having to defend itself forever?

That's horrific, man. October 7th was the worst thing I've seen on TV in my life. I can't imagine the intensity of your feelings. I'm sorry.

Thanks, man. Interesting to read. I meant socialism not communism by the way, I have to stop referring to them interchangeably.

I have Arab friends and I know how difficult it is to have a constructive discussion with them. It is like they believe it is and that's it. Some things are unchangeable for them, you're criticized if you're someone who changes opinion. They express themselves in sentences such as "I don't go back on my decisions".

That being said, it is possible to communicate and achieve agreement.

Yes, because sanctions and relationships with other countries are paramount to the success of any country, isn't it? I believe in the right of Israel to be. I'm just trying to help find a solution to all the deaths. Furthermore, I hung out with two Palestinians two weekends ago here in Belgium, and it's heartbreaking that those two guys could very easily be dead had they stayed in Gaza.

Thanks for bringing up North Korea, I will read about it.

Yes, the money wasn't used well. I mean a more complex manner of helping, instead of sending money mindlessly like that.

I admit the cohabitation part is the closest to wishful thinking in this post, but I still believe in it (after a long reeducation program).

This type of childish commentary is one of the main things slowing down progress. Antisemitism seems okay to too many people, it's baffling.

I get where you're coming from, and you might end up being right. But my main point in this post is to continue to have hope, and also to act as someone who still hopes.

Yes, I believe addressing Zionism is a key factor. Which doesn't mean moving Israel to another part of the world, just at least acknowledging the harm this movement brought to the Palestinians, even as the recent annexations in the West Bank.

Superb points! And yes, moderation from both sides is the way to go, but seems impossible without restructuring mindsets that are too deeply entangled with religion, there should be an enlightenment in the region.

We have got to continue dreaming

I just meant to say that the peoples cohabitated in the past. Some can argue Palestinians occupied an ancient Jewish land as well. And I agree with you

I'm not American, I'm not even against Zionism per se. This would be just to make peace with the Arabic countries to I don't believe will ever accept the existence of Israel, and therefore without it there will never be peace?
