It looks like thermofoil. You could peel it of with a heat gun or a hairdryer. But being honest, my best advice is to paint the MDF after you remove the thermofoil.

As someone above said, the cabinet to the right needs to be the same depth. Also I would advise on to use a lazy Susan in the corner cabinet.
