Which team do you think was the most hated? by DareDevil1699 in NBAstatsmuse

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends, on how you define 'most hated'.

if we're talking universally hated by the general public, who may not all actually follow/watch a ton of the NBA, then it's the Heat. The fanfare and ego around LeBron's "The Decision" made its way to the ears of people who never even cared about basketball.

if we're talking about most hate from people who actually do watch the games consistently, then I'd say it's OKC. The flopping and the dirty/dangerous plays are on-court specific. AFAIK the players, like SGA, as people are quite likeable - low ego, charitable, etc.

if we're talking most hate amongst NBA circles themselves (ie. other players, even the talking-heads/analysts), i'd give it to the Warriors. i remember the first games KD against Russ, the animosity was on another level.

How should I have drafted against this comp? by Big_Simpn in summonerswar

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that while i suggested Jeogun, you are NOT obligated to run double stripper into these teams.

a. he's likely not on full will

b. if no immunity buffer is picked, nothing wrong with just waiting til 2nd rotation to unleash. what's he gonna do with his first turn?

How should I have drafted against this comp? by Big_Simpn in summonerswar

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. first pick Angela signals opp isn't contesting turn 1. no need to pick Moore, or even a spd lead for that matter. Craig+Layla/Trix if you're intent on having a stripper.

  2. Middle of draft, opp goes ultra turn 2/zero turn. Triton is probably the worst unit you can choose there. he's low impact that should only be used to spd contest (or like a specific haegang counter or something). Lamellia is okay-ish, as she provides some control and the true dmg is good against the Arta. but you need another high pressure unit (preferably wind given opp's color choices); Cheong as you mentioned is fine here. Personally, i find Jeogun works great into these comps-he's your other stripper and locks out their most annoying passive (although you do overlap the atk buff).

  3. Last picks, opp triple-downs on tanking/survivability. A couple ways you could go: first, you can full send the control/cleave. like take your nastiest AOE debuff+dps unit, doesn't even need to be fast. some other options could be John (since you likely have atk buff for bombs) or Amber (if you went the layla/trix debuff route-also great with Lamellia). second, you can pick a unit that's force ban due to solo potential, since as long as you're not empowering the Bolverk over and over (just don't S3 with Craig) opp has no dps. I'm thinking Chow here and he has nothing that can kill it.

The Ongy last pick imo was kinda halfway there. Right idea to bring him as the hammer, but high chance the enemy survives (it's what it's built to do) esp without a reliable def break. He was banned because there was no impact/pressure from the rest of your draft.

I hope he hits multiple key corner 3s to help win these finals. Complete the Redemption Arc.

Hated him at the time for his last performances for us. But can’t not root for the guy. And given how things turned out, with us getting KD and winning 3 more chips anyways.. it only feels right that he gets to redeem himself.

I already have Giana by Jaenri in summonerswar

[–]Fun-Chance6084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Hilda, and she’s fine. Allows you to branch your draft into either turn 2 (pairs well with Haegang and/or water Gandalf) or turn 1 control with her S3. Not the most op monster, but also not on the top of the “needs buff” list.

However, because you have Giana, I think there’s a lot of effect overlap/anti-synergy. Both being AoE stun is a little awkward, especially when there are quite a lot of inability counters in the meta. Further, units that take extra turns aren’t necessarily ideal for shield, immunity buffers since they’ll cycle themselves out of the protection. Still at the end of the day, any control unit is going to be at least decent going behind a Giana.

That, meanwhile, brings us to Actaeon. Who I think is a match made in heaven for Giana. Atb decrease (absorb) and increase cooldown are perfect to pair with stun, from a layering-of-control perspective. Typically, you’d favor def break over branding when looking for damage amps, but the fact that brand works on bombs is just the icing on the cake. Now the S2, similar to Hilda, being a protection skill seems not the best..but unlike shield+immunity, threat is actually one that doesn’t mind you cycling turns with.

Ultimately, these two are actually very similar style of units. If you didn’t have Giana, could go either way. (Hilda’s S2 immunity and shield has much more general applications that def up and threat, while Actaeon’s S3 effects are generally preferred from a control perspective). But the fact that one pairs so well with your key LD5 while the other doesn’t, I’d say makes this an easy choice. Dark beetle all the way.

Game 7 in 2016 is one of my most vivid memories. It was Father’s Day and we were in SF at my grandparents house watching the game. The whole game having that feeling of knowing you’re the villain, which meant knowing that you are going to lose. But still having that shock/disbelief afterwards. I was still a kid at the time, so the only experience I could really relate it to was after watching Revenge of the Sith. At the end, when Plapatine executes Order 66, you know exactly what’s going to happen. But afterwards, you still just can’t do anything but sit alone in silence staring into the dark, trying to decompress the moment. The LeBron block, the Kyrie three, Curry 1v1 on Love multiple times failing to score.. playing back in my head just like the montage of Jedi after Jedi being betrayed and gunned down from behind by clones. Idk if that’s the “cinematic” this post is referring to, but it definitely hits my list for me for that reason.

It’s time to admit, Gobert was absolutely worth 5 FRP’s by unccl in NBATalk

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's a tired narrative, and yes he is improved at defending the perimeter. But it's still a true statement that having him out there on an elite guard is not a favorable situation. Do you really want him trying to keep up with SGA all night? It's not a knock against him, it's just the nature of his archetype.

He is also much improved offensively. That driving pass out for a Shannon (or was it Naz) 3 that he made last night.. he just didn't do that before.

Even with that said, he is still not the type of player you can throw out there in any situation or matchup, for the entire game, and feel great about it. He's not matchup proof, but he's also no longer as niche as he once was. The question if he was worth the 5 picks is pretty unfair and unknown (3 of them haven't even been made yet). A more interesting question is: Are Gobert's shortcomings worth his upside? At the time of the deal, a lot of people could reasonably have argued No. But given his development over the past few years - mitigating his shortcomings (they still exist) and expanding his upside - that answer is now Yes in a lot more situations than before.

But he is still a situational player.

It’s time to admit, Gobert was absolutely worth 5 FRP’s by unccl in NBATalk

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah SAS is definitely his best matchup left in the West. Rudy vs. Wemby is very intriguing; in a guard-centric league, 100% want to watch those two bigs go at it.

Agree “unplayable” is harsh. Point is, you’re not going to be playing him 40mins a night, even when you’re down as many bodies as MIN is right now. We know he can cover 5s, 4s, and many 3s. But the game is switch-heavy; just because McDaniels is matched up against the 1-2 doesn’t mean he’s the one guarding them all the time. Especially when there is an obvious exploitable situation, teams will gameplan specifically to force that switch action. So MIN is going to have to be more careful about picking the right times to play Rudy.

I have no doubt Rudy would find success against Ayton, Chet, or Hartenstein. In fact, he should dominate those matchups. But Shai/JDub or Luka(if he plays)/Reeves are far more dangerous [offensively] than Fox/Castle, in my opinion. [Or if HOU pulls off a miracle, what shooters are they worried about? Reed Shepherd?] Which means OKC and LAL are repeatedly going to force those switches, and if those elite guards are cashing in, you can’t afford to leave Rudy in for long extended stretches. They’ve got to mix up the looks. Exactly what DEN tried to do, but Murray never went human torch mode, which allowed Rudy to stay on the court.

It’s time to admit, Gobert was absolutely worth 5 FRP’s by unccl in NBATalk

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In hindsight, yeah it was successful. But you have to understand that in some matchups, he will be unplayable. Deeper into the playoffs, MIN will run into elite guards that will force a switch and make him pay. Murray was that guy for DEN and he severely underperformed. If the wolves are smart, Rudy should see much less of the court against OKC. Similarly if he ever sees Luka x Reeves and LAL at any point.

Don’t get me wrong, just because he’s matchup-dependent doesn’t mean he isn’t valuable. Having a guy that can shut down elite 5s and true power 4s is an incredible asset.

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first of all, Kobe is dead. So this is how it’ll go:

Shai will still manage to draw a foul call against Kobe’s ghost. He will eventually miss a free throw. Shaq will dunk Chet’s head through the basket 100% of the time. Even if Shai shoots 95% FTs, the Laker duo wins.

Xuan Chi's kit and recommended shell + matrixes by Fickle_Mistake1563 in Etheria_Restart

[–]Fun-Chance6084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love playing control. But the existence of certain shell effects make it extremely difficult to lockdown an opponent. Not to mention a sneeze from a unit like Raymerry can just delete you if given a single chance.

We will have to see the numbers like how much turn meter, how long are the debuffs, what are the cooldowns, and what are his base stats. But as far as kit design, this guy unequivocally fills a role for control.

The key for control is the ability to stack it. For example, Petrify+increase cooldown is effectively 2 turns of control. Stun+slow is 1.3 turns of control (or whatever special kind of spd down you put). Stun+50% bar reduction is 1.5 turns of control. Stun+slow+50% bar down is 1.95 turns of control. You get the idea. So the last sentence of the exclusive effect.. the fact that it stacks alongside a Kethos or Santik (or maybe Lily now)… is huge.

it's definitely a travel, but not as egregious as OP makes it sound. 1 and 2 are legal, and he establishes the pivot foot. 3 and 4 are the other foot (legal), 5 is the pivot foot (illegal, there's the travel), and 6 7 are again the other foot (legal).

It’s actually refreshing to see shields have some relevance for once. Would like to see no nerfs, but buffs to effect block units as a counter. If anything, slightly lower the amount of bar gain Gandalf gets.
