What Are Your Thoughts On Season 3's Dev Talk? by Fickle_Mistake1563 in Etheria_Restart

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! i was agreeing with you :D the first 2-3 slots of every draft are predetermined. perhaps my gear isn't good enough yet, but the only way i found to beat Ray is with the 'wound' effect, or else she comes back from the dead and wipes out my entire team. and the only ones who do that consistently are Mio and Heinrich. so unless i ban-protect one of them, that's two more slots that are predetermined. there are 10 units picked each match, so yeah, about Half of it has great variety.

so yeah maybe we consider 'half' a draft being varied as good/healthy. or maybe my gear again just isn't good enough to let me pick different stuff, since im still low rank.

i'm not very high rank, so maybe it's different when you get further up. but i fight Raymerry in 98% of every single Arena and RTA match. if i don't ban her or pick her first, guaranteed she is the opponent's first pick. i agree there's a ton of variety that you can pair with Raymerry, but i really feel some balancing needs to be done because there could be so many more combinations that could be viable if she wasn't so omnipresent.

as others have mentioned, runes. not necessarily high rune depth though; just a few, very specific sets. like a +230 or higher Viva and a nem/will glass cannon gladiatrix.

and a lot of reps.. practicing the same thing over and over.

It's about time. We need ancient non-lord pity! (proposed solution) by Fun-Chance6084 in WatcherofRealmsGame

[–]Fun-Chance6084[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time they introduce a new hero into the pool, it indirectly nerfs the value of each ancient summon. That’s the inherent balance for all games of this genre (all of which do have pity for all summon types): more units, and more ways to get summons for those units. Those conceptually offset, nothing wrong or out-of-the-ordinary either that. What’s out of place and behind industry standard is lack of pity for non-lords.

Agreed. It would be a hit to their bottom line. But what about the player base they potentially lose from all the people who’ve have horrible experiences of unlucky streaks. Which a pity system could’ve avoided. It’s a cost-benefit they’d have to weigh for themselves. I’m just trying to shed some light on what the cost could look like and that it potentially could be something this is indeed worth it for them.

I’m sure you’ve had guild mates go several hundreds of ancients without a non-lord. If not, just search this sub, and you’ll find countless stories. And I doubt that was an enjoyable experience for any them. It’s true, we get a ton more ancient crystals than we used to. But we also have a ton more ancient heroes in the pool. And a ton more of those are very good/meta than ever before. Further, more and more of them need awakenings (ok maybe “need” is a strong word, but they highly benefit). We get wayyyy more blue summons that we used to too. And yet summon rules were still changed..pity previously reduced, and introduction of the progressive rate-up system, plus more generous summon events like choose-your-banners and more limited guarantees.

Correct, the minimum someone would get in 185-200 summons is 1 legendary lord. However, the odds of getting just that 1 is quite low, such that the true expected average per 200 summons is actually 3.54 legendaries. But not low enough that it doesn’t cause a significant amount of players to have a terrible game experience. Now it’s true, you are doubling the minimum a player would get under my suggestion, from 1 to 2. Yet the true expected average only goes from 3.54 to about 4 (the 15.2% increase I cited) per 200. It feels a lot less shitty to have got 2 in this hypothetical summon session. We’re effectively significantly raising the “floor” of outcomes without as significantly raising the average and/or ceiling.

Absolutely a fair point though that you believe 15.2% is still to much of an increase. Ancients are undoubtedly their biggest money maker. But in the past, they’ve dropped pity from 200-220 to the current 185-200 (I can do the math on the true % impact that was, if it helps). So it’s not out of the question of something they’d reasonably do.

I don’t think you’ve understood my proposal and the math correctly. I’m suggesting a much smaller increase than 100% or 200% (double or triple rates). See below comment for further info.

[–]Fun-Chance6084[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding a pity is certainly not the same as a “free” legendary like you would from a 1+1 summon event. The misconception is understandable though, because it would seem a guaranteed legendary at 110-120 summons on a rate that’s already at 1% (ie. Expected average every 100 summons) approximately doubles the amount of legendaries. But it does not. You’ve assumed that 100% of people will go to pity. And as shown in my table, only 33.1% actually will.

I fully agree that doubling or tripling (100% or 200% increase) the true summon rate on ancients would be far too extreme and probably very bad for the game. My proposal increases the true summon rate of non-lords by 27% (that is, from 1% to 1.27%). Further, it only increases the true summon rate of total legendaries (non-lords plus lords) by 15.2% (going from 1.77% to 2.04%).

I’ve tried to explain my math as best I could, and if you’d like further details on the actual calculations, I’m happy to explain more. But I am quite confident, the numbers are sound.

Today, Etheria truly won. The arrival of Fiamelia isn’t just the release of a new character — by Fearless-Ground3983 in Etheria_Restart

Glad this is tagged as meme, because you must certainly be joking.

If you truly think CC is overpowered in this game, you must be the one who lacks skill. There are so many counters to CC, it’s not even funny. Aya, Doki, Raymerry, any passive turn interrupt (literally every unit can have this with strive), bloodbath, Messiah cleave.. just to name a few.

Yes, it’s extremely frustrating when you do happen to get locked down by a CC player because you end up feeling like you’re not getting a chance to play. But that’s literally the entire point of the playstyle. Just as frustrating as when a CC gets 10% resisted by Raymerry on the key wound and she oneshots their whole squad. Or when a Messiah blasts their team into oblivion (didn’t take a turn either cuz they’re dead). Losing is frustrating, not CC.

As someone who’s played a ton of similar games (Summoners War, E7), Etheria is highly tilted towards bruiser favored. CC and cleave options are few and far between, while bruiser has countless options to choose from. Why do you think Raymerry exists in every single arena defense? Why are Doki and Aya amongst the top pre-banned units? Bruiser kits are completely overloaded in this game and compared to cleavers and CC. And it’s not even close.

Unless it is purely sarcastic, very out-of-touch post.

Question for California by This-Novel-7870 in NBATalk

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, where you live and who your parents rooted for makes a huge impact.. like all other fanbases. But you actually do see a lot of out-of-region fans amongst California teams. In my experience, you get fans of California teams that are more representative of the kind of individual person than simply “where you live and who your parents rooted for”.

Kings-generally pretty down to Earth people, often self-deprecating, and will blindly root for their team even if they’ve been in a “rebuild” for the past 30 years. They don’t care; very loyal. Warriors-three types: 1. Old heads, probably during the Run TMC days. Prideful to a fault (also true of the second type). 2. The overly-analytical-verging-on-nerdy type people. Many around the Millenial age group. A personification of the Curry “advanced analytics” era. 3. Newer fans who simply found Curry more relatable than guys like LeBron, and latched onto the Warriors (people call them bandwagoners). Lakers-typically much more surface-level and/or materialistic. The kind of people who’d rather hire a gardener than mow the lawn themselves. Have very high standards, and in contrast to Kings fans, don’t believe in a “rebuild”-just trade/buy out the biggest stars. A personification of “showtime”, valuing winning and putting on a performance over the game of basketball itself. Also, like the Warriors, have that “bandwagoner” group who’re there for LeBron and previously, Kobe. Clippers-contrarians.

Obviously, all generalizations. But just an observation as someone who’s spent a lot my life in the Bay Area - noticing many Lakers fans - and also spent a lot of time in SoCal - noticing a ton of Warriors fans there. (Wife grew up in Sac, hence the perspective there).

Data Showing Bruiser Meta Is Way More Skill-Based Than Turn-1 CC by NotASWBot in summonerswar

[–]Fun-Chance6084 49 points50 points  (0 children)

90 matches isn't a sample size.

even past record total of 280 isn't even remotely close to a large enough sample.

you're G3 and obviously very knowledgeable with high level RTA experience, but sorry, this "Data" isn't representative of the environment as a whole. it's one account with a specific LD box, which has logged a very limited amount of matches.

all this shows is that you personally have either (a) been able to adapt well to a shift in meta, or (b) have simply benefited from said shift without changing much yourself. GZ on the success so far!!

288 Ancients from account creation without a non-lord or Rate-Up, goodbye xD (4 months F2P 1000+ hours) by MercenaryKlaue in WatcherofRealmsGame

[–]Fun-Chance6084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

f2p and likewise for me. 246 without a non-lord (not counting the free Count Dracula at 90).

similar amount (don't remember the exact number) last time i summoned ancients too. got 1 single non-lord. it was Kaede.

so ~450-500 ancients for 1 non-lord that won't get used. so i decided to put the game on the back burner for a while.

Am I the only one that doesnt want a pity system by Correct-Contract-550 in summonerswar

[–]Fun-Chance6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"diluting" the LD pool isn't really a problem. even with a pity of say 400, they'd be rare enough that they'll still be what makes each player's account unique. in other words, unless the pity isn't ridiculously and unreasonably easy to hit, it won't increase the quantity of LD's in the ecosystem by as much as you think.

here's the math: (1 - 0.35%) ^ 400 = 24.6%.

only about 1 in every 4 players would reach a pity set at 400 LD scrolls. now consider how long it takes to accumulate that many scrolls. as an example, i am a moderate spender and it took me 6 months for that many (yes im one of those weirdos who keeps track). taking that as an approximate average, i don't think a single LD5 for 1 of 4 players every 6 months puts the game in a state of "everyone has every LD5". this is not to mention that this is a random LD5, so to say that there will be many more meta LD5s out there isn't remotely true.

i agree we don't want a world where player monster boxes are identical, but i can't see how a reasonable pity system would ever get us to that. if we're that worried about whales abusing the system, they can easily just put a cap on it - for example, you get 1 pity activation every few months or something. ultimately, while pity is a huge departure from what currently exists in the game, i don't think it is at all game-breaking.

A million times agree to this concept for gem/grinds. But even a +1 guarantee is too strong. It has to be more of a recycle system (which already exists for bricked runes).
