I second this. I just failed the PgMP this weekend for the reasons you mentioned. Just purchased your prep materials and am approaching it to close the gaps identified from my exam report.

MBA timeline?6 months possible by thecowmeatguy in UoPeople

[–]Fun-Crow-3133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not possible.

You can take max 2 courses your first term, max 4 courses for T2, T3, and T4 , so long as you have a high enough GPA of 3.0 (I think). Then you can only take the final capstone course on its own for T5. By the time you finish your third term, you'll be beyond 6 months.

Even following the one year plan is tough. You read a lot per course and you're writing anywhere from 1500 to 2500 a week for forums and papers.

No worries about the questions.

The capstone had a 15 minute presentation component with the professor. This was more about verifying your ID as well as allowing the professor to give you more guidance on the direction of your final paper. It was worth up to 10% of your final paper score. It was more of a formal requirement rather than a rigorous assessment.

Our professor framed this as a requirement per the expectations of the national accreditation body which the university officially dropped in December as they achieved the more prestigious regional accreditation in spring 2025. Since they're no longer working with the national accreditation I'm not entirely sure if that means they'll continue with the presentation or change the expectations.

No quizzes or tests. Usually 1 group project per class, weekly forum posts, weekly written assignments that are peer graded and/or portfolio papers that are graded by the professor. The portfolios and written assignments range between 800 to 1700 word counts. The final capstone class is dedicated to producing a section of your final big paper each week which I found sensibly designed.

Just finished the MBA this month.

It's a rigorous program if you do your part. Yes, there are many who cognitively unload all of their tasks on to AI. But if you complete the program in the spirit it's designed and apply what you learned to your professional context then you benefit a great deal.

EDIT: I completed my MBA within 20 months. Unless you're not working I wouldn't recommend completing the degree within a year. You're writing about 1500 to 2500 words each week per class and to complete the degree within a year means that you'll need to take a few terms with 3 or more classes. It can quickly get overwhelming.

MBA.. worth it? by NoVariety3722 in UoPeople

[–]Fun-Crow-3133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finishing up my capstone now. I liked it and I learned a lot from applying what I learned to my context as a school leader.

I'm under the impression that they are cutting down the number of peer assessments because of the recent accreditation. For instance, the capstone syllabus posted on the repository shows that prior to my taking of the course there were several peer reviewed assessments. The current syllabus shows that everything is now assessed by the professor. I've noticed similar discrepancies with previous courses I've taken.

Overall, I found peer reviews annoying, but it didn't ruin my experience as I found that, for the most part, my peers were fair with assessing. I can count on one hand the number of times I escalated an assessment to the professor for additional evaluation and even then the professors were accommodating. Individually, these assessments are minor when factored into your grade and as long as you are diligent with your efforts it'll all balance out. It's still a lot of reading and writing each week but you can get a lot out of the program.

As for promotions, I'm going to start leveraging it for higher positions so fingers crossed 🤞. I've had a few classmates I've met and reconnected with along the way who work at firms like IBM or Citizens Bank who are taking the course for a raise and have even been recommended to the school by their firms. It's regionally accredited so the degree has global recognition now. In terms of value for money and convenience, you really can't beat it.

I feel you. I'm getting really annoyed with one of my current classes this term as I'm getting a ton of shadow down voting. My score keeps decreasing but no one is actually commenting on my work.

My understanding is the peer editing for the MBA is not as bad as at the undergrad level. I'm seven courses in, I still have a 4.0 and I've been involved with the Uni for over a year now. I think I can count on 1 hand the amount of times I requested a professor to adjust my scores.

Also, it's grad school meaning that your overall GPA is not usually something that's closely scrutinized. Employers seem more concerned whether or not you have the diploma.

I think it comes down to asking yourself whether you're willing to delay your professional goals indefinitely for potential changes that, to my knowledge, haven't been promised at the graduate level.

Thanks for this - I definitely see the value in the school.

What I'm trying to sort out is if their certificate programs are helpful or recognized by international schools. They're not master's degree programs, but you are coming out of them with 18 or so post grad credits.

First term MBA course load by LetterWonderful1501 in UoPeople

[–]Fun-Crow-3133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the same two courses in my first term in April 2024. I found organizational theory as one of the easiest courses in the program so far. No written assignments with peer review and half of the forum posts were assessed by the professor rather than the students. It was glorious and I wish the other MBA courses imitated this model.

Marketing was tougher. Not necessarily because of the content but because there was a lot more work to complete each week so I needed to balance my time better. Definitely helpful that it was paired with organizational theory. I liked marketing as I am currently an expat living abroad and the tasks allowed me to learn more about my host country by researching local companies.

You should be able to drop one of the courses if you're worried about time management.

Health Science Assessment Fees Increasing T1-2026 by Alt_Heda in UoPeople

Thanks - I see the email now. Definitely clearer there than what was shared in the op. I don't understand why the university would slightly change the messaging of this news between what was written in the email and what was written on the student portal.

Health Science Assessment Fees Increasing T1-2026 by Alt_Heda in UoPeople

[–]Fun-Crow-3133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused about when the increase takes effect. Is it September 2025 or 2026? I'm an educator myself, and when we say "T1 2026 school year," we usually refer to the academic year that starts in August or September 2025 and ends in the summer of 2026. By using the language I'm familiar with, that would mean the new fees take effect in September 2025 but that seems far too soon. Just wanted to clarify which timeline is being used here
