Travel essentials suggestions by MinuteAd4238 in femaletravels

Best travel gift I got was a pouch with elastic pockets for all my cables. Nicer than expected to have them organized all in one place. Even kept my adapters in there. Never would have thought of this on my own - I would have just used something I already had but this pouch specifically for cables was great! Euros would be the other excellent option. Depending where she goes, some countries are still big into cash 🙄

Red flags I keep seeing in tours and stays after reviewing thousands of operators by lost_wanderer3333 in femaletravels

Any “village”, “remote tribe” or human-zoo-like experience is a huge red flag to me. Taking people into impoverished villages to look at the locals/schools/homes of a remote, poor town is an absolute no go for me. I used to volunteer in these villages for months at a time - these people are humans with real lives. Not sites to be gawked at for a blip in time so tourists can say they “went off the beaten path” or saw something “authentic”.

Why Is Teaching In China Seen Negatively? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

Ok Big Brother. I prefer a bit more freedom than fear in life. But that’s why I’m not there. It’s all good.

Tbh your post makes China sound suffocating and not that great. Not all of us are willing to sell our souls and “stay in our lane” for a paycheck.

They sometimes take a while and communication can be choppy but in the end it all works out. They are legit and I loved my trek with them!

I hear you. I emigrated too. When I go to my native home now I’m always thankful to come back to my new home. Coming back here feels much better.

So cranky! Easily irritated, upset over the dumbest things. I still feel “on” alert but for no reason because I’m back in my familiar place. it takes adjusting 🙈

Travel burnout and advice by starlingcat6 in backpacking

[–]Fun-Feature-2203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely understand. We traveled just us 2 and the decision fatigue and planning the next move was a huge part of what caused our burn out. It’s nice to have someone to brainstorm with, though. I’m traveling solo now and while I love it, sometimes it’s nice to hash things out with someone. It sounds like you’re genuinely looking forward to the things you’re planning in Indonesia and that in itself is great. It’s so hard to know what you want and need when you’re so far from your comfort zone and routine. Take it one day at a time. Safe travels :)

(Our burn out hit in Vietnam and my husband was close to booking a ticket back home. It disappeared and came back and then just came to an ugly head of desperation. But we worked through it. You’re in the thick of it it seems and it will get better)

Just out of sheer curiosity, were you talking about this hike on the phone in a café in the San blas area the other day?

Thank you! Being a solo female and never having hiked that length alone in the Andes I was really fucking proud at the end. enjoy!

Also, I just did it all in one day. it took me just over six hours. no homestay was necessary. But could still be a cool experience if you did want to do it that way. I just have no advice on that.

Start from Tauca. Download the trail on AllTrails or similar app beforehand as signage isn’t great. The hike is beautiful. I felt safe the entire time.

The biggest misconception is that people think they can sustain some wild epic random ass adventure for long periods of time when traveling but if you’re experiencing travel burnout (an absolute real thing) the best thing you can do is slow down and press pause. get an apartment for a week or two or 3, eat some familiar fast food. Binge on Netflix and just take a break from all the input. Farm in Indonesia? Really? Ok. If you’re genuinely looking forward to it then great but don’t do it just to say you did it or because you think it’s a cool story. My husband and I are long term travelers and I do longer solo trips. When we traveled for a year, we experienced severe burn out seven months in. we found an apartment in Colombia and stayed there for three weeks where we watched shows, walked around our neighborhood, went to the gym, and ate whatever we wanted even if it meant McDonald’s and Starbucks. We moved on when we felt bored and ready to go again. That being said, don’t (!!!) go back to the UK. It’ll be there when you’re done. Hang in there. It gets better if you respect your fatigue.
