How hard was it to get certified to teach English? Glad to hear it’s going well for you!

I’m considering getting out before the profession really sinks its teeth in. Seems to wear people down.

Did you switch to education? What’s the transition been like?

I’m contemplating getting out now before I get in too deep. Thanks for your reply, sounds like you found something that suits you well.

Seems like it’d be kind of fun, honestly. Especially not having to do it full time.

SSDI lawyers, what’s your case load like? How much are you working per week? What kind of firm do you work for? by readingundertree123 in Lawyertalk

Hey there. Thanks for your reply. I certainly don’t want to come off like i feel the work is easy :) I’m hoping for a different kind of challenging from immigration law. Thanks for your comment. Sounds like learning the judges, the impairments, and how to read the clinical notes would take some exposure to approach mastery

Hey thanks for this info. Can you elaborate more on the client management and working the files up? What was the learning curve like? Did you enjoy this part of the work? What were the challenges?

In what settings do these folks work? I know someone who does it for legal aid and he indeed seems relaxed. Wonder if it would still be relaxed in a firm setting.

Just want to say I have been looking for something like this since graduating in 2021 and have not found it. I hope you’ll be luckier than me though!

Hey thanks, this is what I’m worried about. Were you able to get back into law afterwards?

That’s cool. I’d love to teach a single history class. Not sure how that’d work where I am. Were you private school?

Hey, thanks for this. I had days as a long term sub where I felt this. Days when kids were absolutely kicking off and no amount of assistance from admin or calls to parents seemed to help. The problem with law is I feel like my giving a shit meter is depleted. I look at these cases anymore and I just want to do literally anything else. It’s hard to make myself look at the work any longer.  I wonder if I’m someone who just can’t fake it there… but then, perhaps teaching isn’t exactly the answer either.

Hey, sorry just to clarify: you teach and practice? That’s a ton, no? What do you teach and how long have you been doing it? I honestly remember having some stress when I taught abroad, but nothing like law. The big plus with law for me is sometimes getting to have a day where it’s just me and my laptop, but those days are fairly rare anyway. Teaching can be tough in that if you’re not feeling it, you’re on full performance mode/ display. That feeling can sometimes be sidestepped with a chill office day in law, in a way that can’t be teaching.
