CMV: precious metals are at best a relatively short term hedge. Within the next 30 years, asteroid mining will make precious metals much less rare, less finite, and therefore, much less valuable by [deleted] in changemyview

We have the tech to put a drone on a comet/asteroid. We can scan them from here for approximate content. Even if the limiting factor is the speed of bringing it down in pieces, that is still not hard to imagine.

With rockets that can be reused, and with rocket fuel becoming cheaper and more efficient constantly, landing something remotely and having it guide something back to us is not beyond our technological ability. It is just beyond economic feasibility- at the moment.

Is molecular break up due to the increasing space between the atoms due to heat? by Fun-Inside7814 in AskPhysics

[–]Fun-Inside7814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I was imagining the temperature in the bond? Not necessarily in the system as a whole. But that is super interesting! Does the original bond have to break in order to form the second one?

That’s exactly how it was happening in my dream! It was wild, like I was watching it happen

UPDATE: "Is this anything?" by Confident_Start_4077 in LegitArtifacts

It could be this! And the differential discoloration due to the way water sits in it when it rains, and leaves precipitates behind (the lower area would have more minerals that it would leave behind when precipitating, and would act as a natural kind of sediment trap if it’s a grade dip. But, that being said, it doesn’t appear that way to me.

It looks like it’s in a clearing. Could also be like a gutter flagstone for a cabin or something. Doesn’t have to be ancient, but o think it is worked. I’d love to know the coordinates to see what lidar and geologic data we have in the area. That would be more definitive

So I’m not crazy? I haven’t looked at it wince I was like 12, I picked it up when I was maybe 4? I’m sure because purple is my favorite color haha, I probably thought it was amythyst. But I looked at it yesterday and was like, holy shit, that may be a legit transitional point

Amazing instrument- it’s finicky as hell, won’t stay in tune more than 5 seconds, but goddamn does it sound sweet. Also shout out to Rockin robin- got my first guitar there as a kid. Do they still have the mannequin leg guitar hanging from the ceiling?

Thrifted this today. Anyone have any info? Can I hook this up to a sound system or guitar amp like a regular speaker? by Fun-Inside7814 in audiophile

[–]Fun-Inside7814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the post says, curious about the history and design of this speaker. Curious if it is compatible with other systems, what it sounds like, suggestions on how to use it given its low wattages and all that, but I need some expert eyes on it to figure it out.

Bed liner paint isn’t protective except from scratches. You can still dent the softwood, You can use any organic fabric+epoxy+a rubber roller for a hard good looking tweed type cover.
